I know 6 pages is a lot to read, but it does say in the thread that it's Ultimate Edition. It also says that on the MS website when you sign up to get your product key.Gimpymoo said:Anyone know which SKU this is?

The memory manager has actually been improved - it uses all memory available. On a 512Mb RAM machine, it will use near as damn it all 512. On 2Gb, it will use nearly all 2Gb. This is the way Linux & other OS's all use memory.Energize said:It uses loads of memory about 750MB without anything open, seems slower in response than xp, and of course its pretty bad for gaming because of all the memory it uses. Looks nice though. The new system doesnt really seem that different from the old one.
Sholuldn't touch your other installs. Hasn't on any PC I installed on.Energize said:Well with the internet not working I cant do much atm, also I should warn you, it screws up your other windows install even if you do dual boot.
On the contrary, I've been using it for the last two weeks. I've noticed no real difference in speed between Vista and XP, all of the software I want/need to use works fine and all my hardware is supported.Energize said:Yeah its pretty much useless atm, its much slower than xp, loads of software wont work on it, there are loads of driver problems and it uses stupid amounts of memory.
And you can add it to the start menu by going to Taskbar and Start Menu Properties, same as in XP.KASM said:kb shortcut is windows key+r
They're for a much older build - 5321. This is 5384.4, so those drivers have been around a while.split said:Maybe Creative are working on some for this build.
I'd abandon putting it back. Create a new PST, and just import all your emails etc from the old PST.Datamonkey said:Having installed office 2007 beta, im trying to put my pst and such back in its usual place.
Have you disabled UAP? It that doesn't solve it, I'm out of ideas. Google might throw up some more.Datamonkey said:I dont like being locked out of stuff when i am supposedly and "Administrator" on my own machine lol if you know what i mean
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you were just complaining that your Audigy 4 doesn't work. Either you're using 32-bit and it plain doesn't work, or you're using 64-bit, in which case you won't've tried 32-bit.... unless you managed to download and install both versions.Energize said:Ive never had a driver problem with 32-bit using creative cards.
NOD32's fine if IMON is disabled.xyphic said:Turns out that NOD32 doesn't work with Vista yet, I tried it and it causes a couple of services to go crazy and use up 100% of CPU time which slows everything down. But Avast does work, so no real problems there. Haven't tried much else yet, other than Opera. I *have* installed the beta for Office 2007 and again, as with Vista, the UI improvements are noticeable, though will also take some getting used to.
You need Network Card drivers - check Device Manager or Network Center to see if the NIC is installed. Try Windows Update or your motherboard manufacturer (if onboard) or card manufacturer for drivers if it's not installed.Kerplunk said:Can anyone help me here, just installed Vista Beta and I cant seem to get my Internet working, with an XP build it detects it automatically, no drivers.
Open a command prompt and run ipconfig. If it says 'Media Disconnected' and the cable's in and the drivers are installed, then it sounds like dodgy drivers.Kerplunk said:Says Disconnected.
And it is in Device Manager...
Kerplunk said:Thanks, worked a treat.
The obvious place to start would be Graphics Drivers... what card, what drivers atm?Eva01 said:Right just installed beta 2 onto my pc but the resolution wont go above 1024x768 anyone know why?
But you can go through the signup process again and get another. You're allowed a maximum of 2.Jimbo said:I only got 1 key, but hey its a free os.
The same way as in XP. Go to the 'System' control panel, click 'Advanced System Settings'. Click 'Settings' next to Startup and Recovery, and chose your OS and timeout settings.Kerplunk said:How can I allow it to auto boot XP or Previous OS ?
And it will. You're allowed a maximum of 2 keys though.Blackhorse said:It said on the email i got the key would work for up to a max of 10 comps
It isn't finished yet, for starters. But for your information, the vast proportion of space is taken up by C:\windows\system32\drivers (~2.4Gb in x86, much more in x64, I suspect), and another ~3Gb in C:\windows\winsxs - containing just about every MS dll.Concorde Rules said:Anyone with the x64 download confirm its 8gb+?
WTF, why? How can a system be so bloated, thats 10% of my raptor gone and a 8Gb i-ram completely useless.
Posted and talked about a few pages back - they're old (Nov 05), and are very hit and miss. They're worth a go, but not actually a lot of use in many cases.Blackhorse said:Found this hope it helps
