If you just have SATA drives you do not need any drivers. You will need drivers to build a raid array if you are enabling raid. What kind of raid do you want?

A Sata optical drive on the purple connectors and your Sata hard drive on the orange connector and you will not need any drivers at all.

if I don't need drivers then why does vista insist I do? and how do I stop it getting it wrong?

The IDE is your problem. It is part of the gigabyte raid set up. I have built 2 PCs using gigabyte P35 boards and was not asked for any drivers at all because I was using Sata optical drives as well as Sata hard drives. If you ditch the IDE you will not get asked for drivers. £20 on a Samsung DVD writer will solve your problem.

lisa what do you mean with raid01 enabled?

im having EXACTLY the same issues as you even though all my gear is sata
