This is great, will order vista ultimate retail tomorrow/later today, i upgrade my hardware quite often so retail is the answer for me, along with the fact i need remote desktop and mce. I see vista uses the same point system as XP for validation. :)

It's a small amount really, when you think how long it's going to be used, what, 4-5 years? :)
Yup, my thoughts exactly. £365 over 5 years is £73 a year or about £6.08 a month. Not bad considering how much it'll be used. Plus he upgrades a lot so he'll need to be able to do this easily and also need the Remote Desktop. It isn't really that much over the lifetime of the OS I think.

not really can you really not think of anything else to spend money on?
sorry spend away

Your style of using computers is different to mine, i would rather pay one lump sum and have ultimate and not need to worry about reactivating on a hardware change, i can probably say that it will pay for itself over, as i would need a new licence each time i changed my hard drive or mainboard. (if i got oem)
If you don't see the need, great, don't buy it.

Okay..? :) That only helps to strengthen my point... :)

Not really. To build a decent spec computer, which will last a number of years, you should be aiming to spend £800-£1000. I did this almost three years ago on my main rig (Althon 2400+, 1gb Ram, 9800pro) and it still runs a charm. I have only very recently bought a new computer (macbook) to facilitate my needs to have a computer while moving around. Again, I have spent around a grand and will expect it to last at least three years.

How is this relevant? :)

Well i was somehow trying to prove that him having a fairly new system doesn't really help strengthen your point. I've gone around it in a rather carp way though.

...For the record I don't agree with him either. I'm kinda in the middle.

It's none of your business what he spends his money on, for a lot of people £350 for an OS they will use for 4+ years is nothing... it's an investment. People go out and spend £30 twice a week at the pub, now that's a waste in comparison.

Hey I just spent £30 on the Aliens 9 disc DVD box set - now that is a waste! :)

If I hear you say that buying one of the greatest sci-fi franchises ever created on DVD is a waste ever again you'll be over my knee and feeling the sting of my hand young man. :D
