VISTA is on its way!!

I would imagine the Upgrade and Retail DVD will actually be the same, the difference is the license - not the actual product. And If you put in a product key for the upgrade license version, it'll also ask you for a product key for something which is eligible for the upgrade when you come to activate it.

this is pure guesswork - am I right?

I would imagine this is probably exactly how it will work.

Yes you can upgrade an OEM copy, that's definate. Will it require a validated product key to install? I highly doubt that, but it's possible.

It's why I'm waiting for the answer come the end of the month.

If you can activate vista with an expired OEM licence then I'm there, saving myself a lot on windows vista ultimate, having the full retail version for over £100 cheaper in all real terms, as far as M$ are concerned. (or at least where windows update and WGA are concerned).

I have taken a look at the difference between home premium and ultimate, not much difference tbh.

I might get the Home premium.

The sensible option. Only the poseurs are getting Ultimate for bragging rights, although they'll no doubt come up with some really contrived reason why they need the extra features ;)

Remote Desktop is the one thing Home premium lacks that i really really like having, im quite annoyed its not in there :)

there's free programs that do the same thing though aren't there - It's really not worth the £140 extra just for remote desktop is it?

I'd be more suited to Home Premium but I'd like to find out what the hidden extras MS will release with Vista Ultimate. In terms of value for money the retail version of Vista Home Premium will more than suit me. I can't really justify spending the extra money for the Ultimate, especially as the extras aren't really public knowledge yet. However once they are and if they are really good I might be able to make a case, but honestly, I doubt it.

Yeah I noticed that. I could claim that as one reason for getting Ultimate but the cost increase is rather prohibitive for that feature alone, I've never used Remote Desktop before, although I would appreciate the 'ability' to use it plus I suppose the existing independent equivalents of XP's Remote Desktop will be made available for Vista soon enough so it could be that we could buy Home Premium and use a 3rd party Remote Desktop equivalent and be quids in?

Seeing as all the ultimate files are on the home premiumDVD someone will probably find a way for extracting and using them.

There are plenty of others, but they simply arent near as good to use after using remote desktop for so long...grrr microsoft :p

Ill probably be buying OEM anyway so it wont cost that much more, im not paying the stupid UK retail prices, or if i do go retail ill import it, even after paying customs itd be saving a packet.

Perhaps, but it kinda defeats the point in paying for it at all if your gonna nick the other features :)

It's £8. It's not going to break the bank, vista might but £8 is not a lot, for knowing whatever happens you product will reach you.

If it get's lost, I'll be resent, if it get's stolen it will get resent, if the van catches on fire it will be resent. Plus City-link make sure the parcel get to you and is signed for.
I have had royal mail leave my expensive goods in my back garden during a rain storm with a card telling me where it is through the letterbox.

I've had City Link deliver a parcel to a different address around the back and swear blind I signed for it...

A small cardboard box with insurance for £200-300 shouldn't cost anywhere near £8 to deliver. it would be nice if you offered other delivery options besides the parcel football champs at City Link...

I admit it's very handy, but not worth £65-odd quid extra just for that.

At which point you'll be violating your license agreement. If that's your attitude why not just use a "hooky" copy of Ultimate to start with - it'll be about as legal.

I dunno, i use it every day and find it significantly nicer to use than its competitors...we will see, since the OEM makes you pick 32 or 64bit ill probably not be changing for several months as i want the 64bit version but was gonna install the 32bit version for the first 6+ months whilst x64 support is brought up to snuff.

sorry about this, probably been asked before,

If ordered the ultimate OEM today when would it arrive!?!?

Thanks in advance Gibbo and other members.
