I think after this many problems and 10 pages of posting id have smashed the damn thing up by now or went back to winxp :)

You are remarkably calm/patient about this given it's your life savings... :eek:

It's obvious there's some sort of incompatibility/instability in your system, and you need to test (or get someone to test) some parts in isolation and/or swap some parts out with others to try and identify the culprit so you can individually RMA the offending part if possible.

You actually have a really good system, if only you can get the instability sorted out... :( (BTW still prepared to pop over if you want, gimme a shout if you want me to have a look/maybe bring some hardware to swap out... )

I think you have to try letting someone pop over with some hardware to swap out and test so you can determin what the prob is. Best bet is to get someone who has a pci-e gfx card and diff brand ddr2 ram.

I dont think u have a choice anymore tbh. It would be the best and quickest way to sort ** probs out and get back to gaming etc. So i would advise you accept bytejugglers offer to help asap.

Just remember when you do put diff ram in it is a MUST to wipe the hdd and reinstall everything a new because faulty ram and installing a os will just make the os never work properly cos it wasnt installed properly due to ram messing up installation.

Of note geil 2gb ddr2 is only £35 quid at ocuk so it wouldnt take long to save up and get some to test a diff brand IF you didnt want to get someone to come and help.

I've been watching this for a while now (more interesting than most things on TV!), and have to agree with other recent posters; surely you have to let someone drop in and swap a couple of components - at this rate this thread could still be going next Easter until you positively exclude some potential root causes? It will in the long run save you a LOT of time and effort, not to mention inconvenience...
 
I think you're right, I do need to try swaping things in isolation.

I've been saving for this for 3years, been doing a paper round 6 days a week, spent my money on nothing just so I could afford it.

Bytejuggler I'll ask my dad when you could come around (I'm only 16 btw), what sort of time are you usually free?

and thing is with my GCSE mocks for the next few weeks revision is taking up a lot of my time, I was hoping for this to all be out of the way by no, which is why I bought it back in september.

I could probly justify buying some of that cheap geil ram, but if it wasn't the ram at fault, would I be able to use it with my corsair stuff, to get 4gb?


And shouldn't xxxx have tested it before they sent it back to me?

Depends how well they tested the parts mate, most places dont do it proper like we would they just bang it with some parts (might not be all ** parts together tested) and made it boot if it booted they probably thought it works next please.. They might not check stability, settings, damage, compatability.

Your ram could easily be sold as new on mm and ud still have loads for that 2gb geil ram since its uber cheap this week.

If you can get a fellow ocuk member to come and test their ram in ** comp i would always opt for that before thinking of doing the sell ram and get diff brand ram etc.

Also try asking ramguy here about ** ram.

my dad's just got in, and he's been emailing xxxx all week to no avail, but finally they've rang back, and apparently they did test the system with windows, and my dad sent him all the latest error screenies of mine, but they say they need more info to be able to work it out, they were surprised it still wasn't working. what other info can I give them??

OK well I work during the day weekdays, however I could do something during a weekday if there's really no other option (work is or can be flexibile.) Ideally Sat or Sun would probably be best, alternatively either Mon, Tue, or Thu or Fri evenings, say after 18:30 or so. BTW, I'm on MSN so feel free to add me if you want etc.

No worries about your age mate, we're all a bunch of hardware enthusiasts here regardless of age! :) I'm a little older than you then, but I don't bite, promise. :D

Well, ensure you don't let your GCSE preparation slip mate, we don't want your PC to be responsible for another problem. :D

As others have commented, how well xxxx have tested your hardware is unknown, it's quite possible that they've just done a cursory "yeah that seems to work" type check, and not stressed it properly.
 
xxxx have said that they did test it with windows now,

and weekends will be the best times for me too, probably Saturdays, as I go to Church on Sundays.

and this saturday Im paintballing, so possibly next weekend.

but before you come and have a look though, I just want to see what xxxx come up with, once they've looked into a bit more, there supposed to be looking at the screenshotsI've sent them.

Without reading through all the posts, and I know some have already said this so sorry if I am repeating things, but its 90% probable that the ram is at fault, either compatibility problems or actually faulty. Just see if you can loan some memory and do a clean install.
 
I asked me mate from school if I could try MTW on his PC see if it works, but he has no hdd space, heonly has an 80gb drive. and he wouldn't let me borrow his gpu or ram, he only has one ram stick so that understandable really.

I've tryed installing it on my old pc and it works fine, so the CD isn't at fault.

And it turns out that xxxx never actually looked at the screenies I sent them, becasue there sysytem does not allow them to open atatchments, so I have no idea how they chose what to bring back.

anyway im gonna have to send them to them in a different way.


and bytejuggler, how longs the journey from where you are to cov? because if you do come, I may be able to get my dad to give you a lift, to save petrol or whatever.
