VISTA THREAD - For problems, etc..

How do I install nVidia drivers on this build?

I got the latest drivers from www.nvidia.com but the installation said thet Windows couldn't be detected.

Are you trying to install the XP drivers in Vista? If so the setup program will fail to complete. If you really want to run XP drivers you have to let the setup extract the files then manually update the driver through the device manager.. but don't expect the system to be stable after doing this.

The actually Vista drivers can be downloaded here (for x86) and here (for x64). These won't give the setup cannot detect Windows error.

just out of interest if i am able to get the chipset drivers to install for me, out of those two nvidia drivers you just posted i'm guessing the x86 version is for 32bit vista?

yup! :)

bah fair enough, now all i have to decide is do i re-install vista and try the compatability wizard on the drivers disk that came with my board and hope for the best? or do i carry on with xp and wait for the genuine release of vista by which time more drivers will be about?

i really want vista with my conroe setup but if it turns out that i can't install the chipset drivers properly i'm going to be really hacked off having to re-install windows xp as the formatt on xp takes ages compared to vista!

:( decisions decisions people

Hi all, annoying problem here....

I'm running a Dell Inspiron 6000 and just did a fresh install of Windows Vista. I've installed ATI drivers for Vista but running Call of Duty I get about 15fps when I used to have 60fps on XP.

Also running 600mb videos seems to be jumpy.

What can I do to try and fix these annoyances?

Ta :)

K, I have a new problem incase anyone knows the answer. Installed Vista, Vista then automatically installs nvidia nforce drivers for the onboard sound. Output works, but microphone doesn't. It claims it's 'unavaliable' if I right click the speaker in the taskbar and goto recording devices. Tried the newest drivers I could find from the web, they gave me constant blue screens and the sound would randomly disappear with no warning. Any ideas?

Couple of things i found very handy when i installed it today.

Removing the UAC check

1. Launch MSCONFIG by from the Run menu.

2. Click on the Tools tab. Scroll down till you find "Disable UAC" Click on that line.

3. Press the Launch button.

4. A CMD window will open. When the command is done, you can close the window.

5. Close MSCONFIG. You need to reboot the computer for changes to apply.

Note that you can re-enable UAC by selecting the "Enable UAP" line and then clicking on the Launch button.

Removing the forced Driver Signing

1. Create a shortcut on the desktop to cmd.exe

2. Right-click on the shortcut and select Run as administrator

3. When the command window opens, type or paste the following and press ENTER:

Bcdedit.exe /set nointegritychecks ON

4. Reboot and then try installing the driver.

I've been put off any future builds of Vista (after trying RC1) until a decent antivirus works with it. I heard ESET are due to release a Vista version of NOD32 around January. I'll upgrade then.

Also my lightscribe cd burning doesn't work with Vista, neither does Nero 6 (I hate Nero 7 - too much bloatware!).

I've also had major burning problems, but Ashampoo works a treat mate and a much more user friendly software it is as well.

i'm going to go back to the xp, i have suddenly started getting 90fps in cs 1.6 for some odd reason  , and my xfi fatal1ty isn't being detected! i need my comp running at it's optimum all the time as i play cs at a fairly high level and need it at it's optimum! hey-ho :( shame tho as i really liked vista! also it won't allow me to force my monitor to run at 100hz as i have done for a long time

Hi All,

Using RC2 5744, and all of a sudden the 'Aero' part of Vista has stopped working. It was all fine, last night and even going through the settings to re-set to 'Aero' it reverts on it's own accord.

Any idea's why please?

I have just come across this issue with the microphone. Although I don't have any BSOD issues.

A friend of mine has the exact same setup to me with no issues what so ever when using skype for example.

The bizare thing is last night it was working fine!

Sorry guys new topic, installed Windows Vista ultimate today on my Athlon 3500+, A8N Sli deluxe, 2 GB RAM, 4 x SATA HDD.
Before choosing a partition to make a clean install on there is a warning at the bottom stating that "hard disk may fail". This message continues to pop in Vista once installed and cant quite figure it out.
I have 4 SATA drives, non RAID. Just plugged in the orange SATA slots on the board normally - but prior to install i disconnected them, with the computer off, and connected only one then isntalled vista. Silicon image pseudo processor has been installed via Windows update. Doesnt appear to be any give in performance, looks fine otherwise. Getting a windows score of 5.2 or summit, prob due to my crappy processor (unclocked) and GPU (128MB).
Should i be installing Vista on a IDE connection? Otherwise how should i install it on a SATA drive. Advice appreciated.
Otherwise Vista rocks! Bout time!

I've installed Vista OEM X64 HP,only had one driver missing (Leadtek USB DTV) I expect Leadtek will update soon since its a pretty new product and they have only XP drivers on their site at the moment.

Overall I'm impressed, usb printer, usb gamepad, external 7 port USB hub, external USB DVD burner all work, even installed some old games like Might and Magic 8 ,as well as newer games like Oblivion.

Vista x64 was a wise move by me,did not realize how compatible a 64 bit OS can be ,and its not even 30th Jan when loads of new drivers will appear :).

Ive got a 3800x2, 2gb ram and msi neo2 plat and Vista can see my 2nd core in device manager but it doesnt show up in task manager, i have a feeling 1 core isnt working at all.
Any idea how I can change the ACPI to multiprocessor as its set at the standard 1 atm?

So have you only got 2 gig of ram mate? gonna order ultimate today, but im still agonyising between 64 or x86.

Anyone considering Vista with a 939 nforce 3 mobo, dual core cpu and an ATI card, forget it unless your happy to disable 1 core.
It seems Nvidia will not be sorting out the nforce3 chipset drivers.

Bang goes my idea of getting a year or 2 more out of this pc if I want to use Vista.
Bought an x1950 yesterday aswell :(
Oh well, back to xp.....
