Im planning on playing with Linux on my other hard drive to do my Java Programming on and was wondering if any had this and what is it like.

I like the look of it or should I get the latest Ubuntu or something being a first time Linux user.

Cheers

Azza

oh god never heard of that till now.. I'm not into these windows copycat distributions myself. You should go with Ubuntu really I think.

The current version is 7.04

Ubuntu 7.10 is the best due to better drivers and some enhancements but it comes out in a few days.. if your in a hurry, you can get the release candidate here: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/7.10/rc/

I'm a Linux noob and used ubuntu fine but I've now installed Mint, its just a bit prettier and more usable out the box :D

<shudders>.. if you want to try Linux, don't go for one that mimics Vista.. as above, try Ubuntu as it will hold your hand enough without doing *all* the work for you :)

I'd not heard of Vixta before, looks like it's been polished up well though :o

Hey Azza i would strongly suggest you install 7.04 and then at least 2 -3 weeks after the release of the latest one install it

Just because the latest release will still be pretty buggy for a little while, well thats what i found when edgy was first released and followed this idea with feisty fawn and again had no problem

Use Ubuntu, the add some nice themes if you don't like the brown

http://art.gnome.org/

The WINaby distributions are generally disappointing as they rarely have a good following and therefore not as well tested and less likely to have all the packages you want.
