Vodka

I've just been up to look and I've only got a quarter of a bottle of Zubrowka left. I'll have to get on to the Poles at my mum's works to get me some more.

So have i :D

And FYI, they sell it in Tesco. Well, they do in mine anyway.

I've tried several so called "quality" vodkas and to be honest they were all the same. None of them actually have a taste as such, just that nasty burning urgh taste/sensation like you're drinking liquid death. Just not my thing I guess.

Cheap and crappy gets you happy :)

tried my zubrowka today, from the freezer.. totally different vodka to Russian standard. None of the burn, very smooth, fairly sweet. Even just smelling them side by side you can tell the difference(and you can smell the burn of the russian standard) ... I know i sound like an idiot and most people will think "its all in his head" but there is a genuine discernable difference.. not sure i'd even buy russian standard 'cept for a ****up from now on...

i tried Russian Standard too, and although it was ok i wouldnt rate it any higher than Smirnoff, only what i would call a mixer brand - not that class above that i would deem to be worthy of savouring neat.

Dont listen to Nitefly, a nice vodka has taste in exactly the same way whisky has taste. It all depends on what you buy and how you drink it.
Traditionally in the UK we use vodka as part of a drink (ie vodka & coke or vodka & orange) which is why we have been supplied crap vodka over the years, we dont need good stuff 'cos we drown it in orange juice anyway.
What I would suggest is buying an average but nice Polish vodka like Wyberowa and drinking it as it should be drunk.
1) Breathe in deeply
2) Swallow the shot
3) Breathe out slowly and deeply.
4) Enjoy the taste (as you breathe out).
5) Take a swig of the glass of juice you have ready next to you.

Since my Polish mates taught me how to drink vodka I haven't looked back. Have plenty of food on hand too, makes for a great sociable evening.

Absolut & Russian Standard are good mid price vodkas too (grudgingly admitted by my Polish mate while we were in Poland last year)
Best I have had is Belvedere Polish vodka, which cost me the princely sum of £25 a couple of years ago in a Polish shop (they call 'em Alkoholes, just stacked to the roof with booze).
Anyways, enjoy the vodka. It's great unless you are drinking it on your own...

You forgot to say stick it in the freezer and drink it ice cold. Agree with you on how to drink it, both technique and the general social environment. A pity none of my friends are like that these days, I killed them all at uni with my vodka drinking habbits.

and Wyborowa (Vi-bu-ro-va) :D:D Not just you, plenty of bad spelling in this thread ;)

Panzy :p

A good vodka needs to come straight out of the freezer and be shotted properly. Lovely stuff!!!

Do not shot this stuff, messes with your head :D

Grey Goose, 42 Below, Snow Leopard, done.

Obviously there's the truth of the brand placebo (eg in blind tests pepsi/coke come out 50/50) but there *are* differences and anyone who rates Smirnoff above any of those has no idea what they're talking about although their bank manager will thank them :p

Everyone who's tried the GG I have has loved it and asked what it is. Even girls and girls don't care about brands (except for shoes and clothes) :p

42 Below is my favourite, and quite reasonably priced too. GG can be picked up for £13/litre in the Bahamas but you gotta get there first..
