Was naff looking, not easy to work with, had issues where PTT activated but no audio would be heard and required app restarts.

Way you add/join servers is whacky and not as simple as it should be.

Ventrilo user here, have had my own server since early 2006. I have a few people who get the lag effect. Still investigating a way of fixing it but it's a slow process. I've had it once or twice before and I've always put it down to dodgy internet as that has what it always seemed to be.

The issues fair enough but how good does it need to look? the way you add and join servers is pretty much like vent

Moved to Vent from TS2 a while back, hugely better. Been getting that lag issue in vent recently though, out of nowhere, so might have to look into mumble.

dont rent a TS3 server goon, ive made you a 32 slot one you can have for testing purposes for a week or so :)

Used to use Vent, but then got hit by the dreaded lag bug which I could never fix. We switched to skype which is damn good, but the mic cuts in and out in some games. Not figured out why.

TeamSpeak 3 seems fairly good.

Never really liked vent since they locked it down for personal useage and lately got a lot of lag with it out of nowhere (randomly hitting 3200+ms even tho the game isn't causing any lag and theres nothing else on my connection and everything else hosted on the same server as vent is still running low latency).

I have had nothing but massive lag & drops even with few people on Ventrillo no matter what server its hosted on.

TS3 have been greats even with 1000 users on the server & 200+ in a channel..

Ventrilo is **** to setup, but now compared to Mumble the latency is huge, generally better quality can be achieved easily with ventrilo due to easy control panels and such.

Mumble is sort of a gaming competitive VoIP low latency and relatively easy to use. But i tried setting up on a LAN, was a complete pig to get going, but several mates use it and say it is much better than ventrilo for lower latency, just as easy to use and server are cheaper.

I will look into Mumble servers if my current ventrilo server provider does commercial Mumble servers.

Two of my mates used to get that and they fixed it, I can't for the life of me remember what the fix was though. I'll come back when I remember.

Looks like TS3 is winning, hopefully it's as good or nearly as good as my Mumble experience, I'm sure it's better than Vent though.

I also was experiencing lag in Ventrillo after moving to Windows 7 64bit. Solved all issues by going into the settings and ticking "Direct Sound" in 2 boxes under Voice, and a further box under Speech.
