I took out my 1989 480 today! Now, im biased cause i bought one, but i really didnt expect to be as pleased as i was after driving it tonight! I went to meet my mates as i always do in a local car park to talk cars. (Its just a small meet with people i know, not a chav fest)

I managed G-metered 8.17 to 60, and fell in love with the positive handling of the car. Im sat here itching to drive it more. I never thought a car that cost less than 500quid could be so inspiring and encouraging to drive. The auto box shifts manually beautifully, much better than my BM ever did. It handles like a dream, kinda reminds me of the sure footed, stuck like glue ride of my lowered mini van.

When the turbo spools up and brings in the power its so smooth and confidence building.

I took out a mate who owns a heavily modified 220 turbo coupe, hes already asked to buy it off me as his run-about :p Hes now decided to buy one, along with 2 other under 20's who i took out for a quick drive.

I know i always rave about my cars, but this has really left me with a big imprint. Maybe its because i know he only cost 411quid? Maybe because i came from the boat 525i, but BOY do i love this car. Enough to make me want to keep it after selling the BM? Perhaps ;)

Bargain motoring - WIN

I felt the same way about my £350 ZX 16v (155bhp, 60 in 7.5 secs :D). Gotta love cheap cars.

Wonder what'll be like after you up the boost :D

I cant wait, got an e-mail from the bloke who is going to re-map him. Wants my CEM this week, but i need the motor over the weekend!

Going to have to wait a little bit longer yet :p

Maybe I missed the other thread malt, but do you have pictures of it? I always thought those cars looked rather funky, and the G-Meter time is very impressive for a auto :D

There he is! Hans Uglypants is his name :D

i've always thought they look just on the wrong side of fugly. Theres something about them that could be so beautiful but they don't seem to pull it off.

Still from the sounds of it a great car to drive. I was really quite surprised at our bargain vul... sorry, volvo 740 estate, granted its a big heavy underpowered estate, but for £100 it was a fantastic motorway cruiser and not too bad to drive round the corners :D

Pop up lights for the win ;) Let me tell thee though malt, when I screw mod my 306 it will beat your turbo volvo ;) :(

how do penski's volvos make you feel:
a) all funny in the underwear department - i love the nutty rawness of it
b) kinda sick in the gut department - gimmy back my relyable, comfortable cars
or
c) all confused, am i really that way inclined if i start wanting to paint my cars matt black?

my £100 740GLE estate has just got me the 120 mile round trip to manchester airport and back fully loaded with suitcases and people. I love my Volvo too :D

Volvo P1800
Volvo T5 turbo powered

PPC Dep Ed Kev has lots of long-term projects but this is one that’s turning into an epic.

He first bought the Volvo P1800 five years ago with the intention of restoring it and tuning the original Volvo four pot engine.

Then he met Will, heard his Capri V8 and decided he had to have one in the Volvo. Except he couldn’t find a Ford V8 (bearing in mind he wanted to find one on the same day that he decided he wanted one) so bought a Rover one instead. At which point Will started a campaign. He argued that putting a Rover V8 in the Volvo was a crap idea because a) it didn’t fit and b) every man and his dog has a Rover V8.

Will suggested Kev should install a five cylinder, turbochraged Volvo engine from a Volvo T5. It would, he argued, sound great, as five pots sound very similar to V8s, be very powerful and the cam cover would say Volvo too.Kev was unconvinced and started cutting the P1800’s engine bay about trying to get the Rover lump in.

Then Will found a 3000-miles-from-new T5 and RWD gearbox and Kev was hooked. So the Rover V8’s back on the engine stand and the T5’s sitting in the Volvo engine bay waiting for engine mounts. You can read about progress in PPC magazine every month.
