What's the rules around buying the cards for close friends?

Seems an excuse, they should buy their own cards as if they can afford to spend several hundred quid makes them an adult and will have a bank account and a forum account here that meets the criteria as its for forum members. So if they are not a member here you should not be buying for them is the short answer.

Question,

How long do you have to complete your purchase?
Let's say you add the card to your basket, is it "reserved"? if so for how long? or does it go to the first ones to complete the purchase?

Also lets say your payment get declined or something like that, do you have a 2nd chance to pay or what?

Not sure how our check out works but I suspect it is down to how fast you check out.
Maybe adding funds to a paypal account in advance and then paying with paypal would prevent any issues of been declined.

It seems this went very smoothly with no hiccups, as promised in the OP next week we will try a more public forum deal with a voucher code, but be warned if the code leaks out it will be the last public deal.

FWIW when @Gibbo does post this up in the general forum, this is exactly what will happen. I suspect he full well knows that, maybe Cloudfire will help, who knows. I also suspect when he posts it in open forum, there will be very few cards on offer for this very reason.

Yes I feel it will get abused, but we promised to try and so we will, to try and keep all parties happy, we will actually use a SKU with lotf of stock just in case it does a crazy over sell but so far the voucher system seems to react more or less in realtime so it seems much better suited for the demand,.

Seems a bit premature to ditch the MM idea already for the open forum, its only been done twice and not on a higher end card yet either, which many might be holding out for.

Sorry to the people who don't qualify but my view is keep it private for longer.

This is not an end to private deals, but we’re trying to please all.

Is this something you would consider doing with future hardware launches, if it still looks like demand massively outstrips demand?

On the other hand, it could damage your reputation as a retailer if it seems like it’s becoming some kind of members only club.

Tricky one.

Well we have not participated in any major launches for a while due to insane demand levels and we’ve not marketed a GPU at all this year.

Of course we have to play it careful as our website is the main bread and butter, no offence to our community but it’s now a small part of our business but it’s something we have not forgotten and never will no matter how small in grand scheme of things it might become and how large the group may grow too.

Although at least with the voucher scheme, you can take part in major launches without fear of being totally swamped with unfulfillable backorders.

Our public test next week will give us a good idea on how it could work for a launch because we expect people to leak the code and thus meaning we won’t do a public deal again but we will have tested it and collected data on it for potential future launches. However we have to think long term and bigger picture, we can’t become a private members club because we’d kill of our growth opportunities very fast and would impact the business negatively and that can never happen!

We shall then go back to private MM deals unless we can sort something like I suggested above about a new private forum with less criteria to gain access for forum members during these times of shortage.

We just gotta try things to try and satisfy everyone but I’m under no illusion we will never be able to please everyone and do what is right for the companies future to keep growing.

There was some guy who bought 9 GPU's for his kids apparently, granted it was from other sites. I suppose some people do have that many kids....

Total BS peoples kids don’t all have a birthday at same time people just try to come up with excuses.

I know a guy on FB who has ordered several cards and sells them, he has not purchased from us as we do actively monitor and try to prevent it.

When you say short term, are we talking years or months? Going by Linus's new video, he's on about fabs not being able to catch up till 2023!

12-18 months I expect these GPU issues to remain which in grand scheme of things is short term but it’s an annoying issue yes.

Also all been well by end of the year Covid issues will be over and will get better month by month April onwards, that will help ease some demand.

BTC could crash and thus help ease some demand.

As demand drops and so does interest from scalpers resulting in a big demand drop and things improve vastly.

Lets agree to disagree. If the guys at ocuk see this as an issue then im happy for them to reach out and ill happily cancel given the card hasn't been shipped yet.

I made my post after you placed your order and I am happy to let this one go on the basis your friend is not then just gonna sell it on.

But from now on let’s keep it black and white, only buy if it’s for yourself and to game on.

The whole idea of this is it’s for OcUK loyal forum members buying to give/sell to friends/family is not acceptable as they are not forum members.

Order got cancelled, **** happens, was extatic all afternoon though and that's something miners and scalpers can't take away.
What's the best way to get a card from ocUK if we've not been on the forums and that, had to pay with Amazon today as I didn't even remember my login details

What happened last night is beyond me but Scott has explained, I had a rough day yesterday due to food poisoning night before so I’d passed out in afternoon and once I woke up I went back to work and noticed lots of my hidden stock had all been sold. Scott explained their has been a website error/bug and BOTs opened it up, see Scott’s full explanation but hence the reason.

Now back to the website and general sales of graphics cards.

To give you guys some idea how things will work going forward....

- Will we still sell graphics cards online with the webshop? YES! (2060’s & 1050ti available now)
- Will we do MM only deals on cards listed at £10,000 to drop MM price to just above MRSP? YES!
- Will we still do NVIDIA 3000 and AMD 6000 drops on website with no forum heads up? YES!

I am trying to cover all bases to give everyone a fair chance of buying a card.

The problem is too many people are now using BOTs to try and win a graphics cards, most the people using BOTs are scalpers, some miners and of course maybe some genuine customers but the problem is so many people are now doing this has created this insane demand issue the world is seeing which has forced resellers to withheld their stock or over sell whilst they look for solutions to the problem.

OcUK is probably one of the most proactive companies in the world in trying to investigate new ways of selling cards and more importantly getting said cards into the hands of loyal customers and genuine customers.

I can only apologise to anyone who may have placed a genuine order last night during the bug/blip which has now been cancelled.

Our next deal will be a more public forum one and will be on Monday all being well and then we hope to do further deals later in the week which will either be public forum or back to MM depending on the outcome of the public deal.

@ScottiB Can I ask what the stock situation is on GPUs for plebs like me? Pre unavailability I was eyeing up a 1660 Super, I only see mention of current 3000 series and the like, what is the situation with lower spec cards?

Cheers

We have such cards but they have had dramatic price increases but I shall be doing deals on said cards via forums in coming days/weeks. I am trying to cover all budgets with the deals I do to try and cater for all customers.

Not offence was to be given by that, apologies if it did.

It was a generalisation, as no business can servive without making money :)

I wouldn't mind to know if the prices hikes on the graphics cards are actually because your having to pay more per unit? I mean I can only take your word for it but meh. :p

Wouldn't of minded a job interview like that to be honest :p

All manufacturers have hiked prices on every GPU and their reasoning is they are been charged more for GPU’s, component prices have increased and shipping cost have gone up ten fold, is it true that’s an unknown but we need the stock so we take it. These are manufacturers we deal direct also so no middle men adding a cut as to speak.

Is distribution making additional margin, well we can’t prove this but my gut feeling is they have gone from making 3-7% to likely 7-15% and have resellers stopped competing, absolutely they have because stock is king. So it’s fair to say resellers have gone from making 5-10% and more towards 15-25% but you can’t blame resellers because if they are sat on back orders they will be shipping those at a loss.

It’s a sorry situation but that is what happens every time there is a shortage. I get some distributors royally taking the mick though like trying to sell me cards hundreds pounds above where I am selling and I’ve seen some competitors charging £1200 for in stock 3070’s.

So yes their has been dramatic real price increases.

Hello all, I think I was caught up in this, Gibbo can you confirm if 6700 xt were involved also? I've truly been sat on my pc for a week watching some sites waiting for stock to be avaliable because I downright refuse to pay £900 for one haha. I was so excited to see some stock go live, I was confused by some listings being £10,000 but I just assumed it was a placeholder. Anyway, when found the sapphire rx 6700 xt in stock I added it to basket and sprinted to checkout like a fat kid running after the icecream man. The site appeared to load a bit odd, so I see what you mean about potentially being an error but I did not suspect foulplay, just heavy traffic killing the site. My order went through, finally paid, got various confirmation emails, now to my great dismay my order was cancelled at 12.30am ish. Gutted to say the least!

P.s. I wont lie I was sort of looking forward to the mini haribo bag if covid hasn't finished that off also

They were yea!

apologies yours got cancelled. Keep an eye on the forum next week for some new opportunities.

ouch 3060's at £659.99 at a competitor in stock

now that puts oc's prices into context

We have never sold a 3060 that high but that is the typical going rate now and see them £800ish on Ebay.

We sold our 3060 at £359 to forum members last week at £359.99 down from £499.99 usual web price.

Prices will only keep going up now as all board partners seem in a race to put their prices up the most, gonna get worse in short term.

@Gibbo is looking into getting a different sub forum setup with some entry requirements but less than the current MM, purely for the voucher deals (should they continue etc.?)

Hi there

I need to discuss this with moderating team first, to see if it is even possible, our IT department can't help due to the current list of stuff that comes before this, so unless it is something I can do myself (I cannot as checked) or another forum admin can do I am afraid it looks very unlikely and as originally I did say no promises on this one as I know all staff and all moderators are insanely busy.

WARNING!

I have been informed by the DON's a second loyal member has been caught selling a card purchased on an MM deal.
They have been dealt witrh, also let me inform you now all DON/Admins decisions are final, the moderating team put in a huge amount of work moderating the forum and like me they take a dislike to anyone discovered abusing these deals.

So today we have a public deal and I warn you now both staff and moderators will be watching, if anyone leaks the voucher code or buys to sell on, we will find you and we will ban you!
