Lots of people in the thread posting up with low count, long membership.

We need to remember that if this works well it will result in more gamers getting a card. If it doesn't work then gamers have lost nothing as we can't get a card anyway, let alone at near the MSRP, which is poor value anyway compared to last releases.

The premise of it being Gamers getting cards doesn't stand to scrutiny though, how many forum topics are their to mining with many posts. These people would also be entitled to cards based purely off number of posts.

There is no perfect rule when setting something like this up, obviously. Like I said, I applaud the idea and the reasoning, I just feel for those that it blocks from future cards.

As someone whose account is 10 years old and has just hit 100 (now 101!) posts, i'm inclined to agree. Any chance MM access could be based on a different metric than posts guys? Might save on spamming for one thing.
Post count for MM is ok. It is why it is a trusted environment to buy in. Having a bunch of inactive accounts created ages ago who could easily exit scam and disappear after selling something is not the way.

exactly. when i go in there i want to buy from an active/trusted member who isnt trying to rip me off. and if i sell something, i dont want to see it listed on an auction site a few days later with a huge price increase.

its not like all the cards are posted in there, there were some listed on the website for anyone else to buy too.

It literally says in the OP they will look to open this up outside of the MM to all members.

I'm unsure what about that statement is confusing all these low post count users

Yes I do, but It it's not for me it's for the gf rig... Not sure why I'm even explaining this.

Sure he explained it but the general service recently has been poor to say the least, is just another problem that puts me off using them until they sort out whatever they have going on internally.
Sorry, please extend my apologies to your missus too. We have no way of separating the genuine orders from the scalpers/miners and they cleared us out of pretty much all graphics card stock. So we had to made a choice.

We couldn't realistically allow the orders to go through since it would mean, not only, abandoning the plans to do more controlled sales via the forum, but also essentially closing down sections of our system build business for a week or two whilst we rebuild the stock.

We are looking into a way to create a private forum for less active members such as yourself in which we can post deals away from the prying eye of the bots. It's not as simple as it sounds but hopefully it'll happen and you can still get your card. Either way, now that we've managed to stop the orders there's still a public voucher test due Monday I believe.

Rest assured, we've done nothing to brand last nights customers as bots (apart from a few actually seen scalping).

Wait, so the order I placed yesterday had been cancelled because the stock wasn't on the website? .
Sorry again, as I mentioned yesterday
We had an issue with a hidden stock feed for about half an hour which a load of auto-buy bots...and possibly stock watch bots managed to latch onto.
we discovered shortly after this that the sudden surge in traffic to pages with stock (this is how we know it was caused by bots because the stock feed us hidden from public view) somehow managed to break the pages so that the buy button could be seen. We were so busy trying to fix the hidden issue that we weren't watching the website itself. We're still at a loss as to what exactly happened there, our system was telling the website that these cards were not available to order but the website was ignoring it.

Let's be real, this isn't the 2000s and the the way high value items are being bought and /monitored has changed, companies need to adapt, be it anti bot techniques or improved backend services to handle user traffic more effectively.
We have, and are investing heavily in a new website and a number of new internal software packages but nothing is available "off the shelf" for a company such as ourselves. It has been a multi-year process involving countless man-hours and it's all due to go live later this year.

oh so thats why my order has been cancelled

great... my current GPU is breaking down i thought i got a replacement but no, as someone who has bought most of my computer hardware from here i'm a bit annoyed i don't get access to those codes just because i never created a forum account
please accept my apologies, please see above.

Boo. I can't use members market as I got banned about 10+ years ago for some incorrect posting format or something and there is no appeals process or anything.

It’s great to see the store helping out, and like myself if you’ve been around a while but don’t post much perhaps it’s time to share some of that experience we have gained, fish pond water pumps to D5’s
Danger Den to EK / Bitspower if you’ve been on this site that long I’m sure we could offer support to some of those just starting out.

I suppose there's arguments on both sides, you've seen the amount of tit for tat arguments that go on on here over nothing... pages and pages of it..... I actively avoid such discussions. It's basically that thats not got me to the golden 1000 posts after 7 years. Suppose i'll have to change my stance if I want to be "trusted".

The difference between what i have and could do has absolutely no bearing on whether I'm a trusted person or not.

Well that explains it - I joined the goldrush and thought I'd bagged a 3060 to accompany the 5800X and around £1500 assorted kit I bought from yourselves less than a month ago. Looks like I'll be sticking it out with my 1060 for a bit longer then.. !

The Buy buttons were definitely working tho - even tho Add to Basket was half covered, and it was also available to buy from the category listing page.

The idea is if you're invested into the community to that degree you're unlikely to want to screw that up just to make a quick buck, and miss out on years of decent deals and/or far more trustworthy deals than other potential places.

Of course it's not a perfect system but there's no such thing, and this has at least some logic behind it.

It does stand up to scrtiny - its teh part alert discorders who are not getting them to flip instantly via bots onto ebay. Currys gets hammered instantly a drop happened

No I agree, its not going to please everyone, just feel a little disappointed probably because I'm one of those who's been wanting an upgrade for ages. Think I'm on 370 ish posts over 7 years or roughly 1 per week. IMO I'd say I'm part of the community. I predict this brilliant initiative from OC will be done once its gone to the main forum and gets abused. I'm also sure there are tons of people who sit in this middle ground that are likely to miss an opportunity as a result... such is life ......
