I have a Raspberry Pi, I've heard it can be turned into a VPN. I'm away to mainland Europe and want to watch football on my NOW subscription but it won't work outside of UK.

Is the Raspberry Pi VPN the way to go? Any other methods that I should know about?

Yes it will work fine, go for Wireguard over OpenVPN as it's much faster. There's loads of blogs and YouTube tutorials about how to do it. You want to force all traffic over the VPN when connected via the Wireguard app on your device so that it will appear as if you are using services from your home IP address.

Thanks @chrisd I appreciate it. I'll look into it. Hopefully the Pi still works after a few years of sitting in the drawer

Chris is on the nose as usual. Assuming you're using Raspbian (or Raspberry Pi OS or whatever they're called these days), Ubuntu or some other Debian derivative, have a look at PiVPN. It's a one line install and has a GUI after that to lead you through installing and setting up the VPN and clients. Very handy. As Chris said, make sure you choose WireGuard as the protocol.

I don't have a clue what OS I'll be using. I had it set up for monitoring my 3D printer. I'll format the SD and start from scratch with whatever works best.

As an alternative, are there one-day options online just for viewing a single football match on NOW?
I mean you could use a paid for VPN such as NordVPN and install their app on the device you're using to watch. However streaming service companies are becoming wise to this and actively put blocks on known VPN providers.

You can get Nord for peanuts if you sign up via the very generous Top Cashback deals.

Do express vpn ever have any decent offers on? I bought nord a year or so ago on a great offer but I need an express vpn account.
If they do then I must have missed them, I had been waiting for a while. But I notice that Nord seem to do split tunnelling, per app, etc now in their Windows app, so might be tempted to try them.

Perhaps waiting, if you can, until something like a BF deal, if they do then..?

I see on HUKD there's 6 months of KeepSolid for free. Never heard of it. Signed up with my Google account so I can test if it'll work with NOW TV while I'm away.

You're not going to be able to protect your entire home network unless you use a router which supports an outgoing VPN connection for all (or tagged) devices, such as Untangle.

As @ChrisD. said, unless you do it on your router or effectively use your UnRaid box also as a router (probably doable via a VM and multiple NICs - I haven't done it but substitute pfSense with your choice of a router OS after looking at something like these videos https://forums.unraid.net/topic/710...guide-to-pfsense-both-unraid-vm-and-physical/ ) then you're not protecting your whole network. Now if you want to send a selection of specific Unraid traffic through a VPN then that's an often cited use case, normally for download clients. In which case there are lots of docker templates available in the Unraid app store that will do that for you. I don't know Windscribe, but if they support OpenVPN clients then its highly likely you can get it working with one of those templates such as DelugeVPN.

If it's just a handful of clients that you want to obscure, then simply using something like NordVPN on those clients would work. Also ensure that you use a privacy based DNS provider for non-VPN clients such as Quad9 so that your ISP can't see what you're up to.

Doing it as BigT says can be achieved, but if it's for the entire network then nothing beats a proper firewall router that can do it for the entire network or put certain clients down a VPN based on application usage or what you device.

Also be aware that if you put your whole network over a VPN, streaming services are cottoning on to this and they blacklist known egress IPs, for example you're watching some IPTV stream and you obscure that using a VPN, then log into BT Sport, you'll get a message to say that you're outside the UK - even if the VPN endpoint is in London.

Depends what you class as a deal?

49% off - 1y + 3 mo free, $6.67/mo is best one I have seen if you pay in USD no tax also use a bank no conversion fees.

Price wise surfshark/nord are best with deals can be around $2 per month and if cashback is accepted as well surfshark is 90% and nord around 40% (places are selective with cashback when discounts applied)

The only other option wait until blackfriday always deals.

Sad times, can't watch my NOW subscription in Europe through KeepSolid VPN Unlimited. Using on android phone.
Just to add - I can't watch anything through it.
My Prime and Disney+ have been region limited. BBC iplayer won't work even though the VPN has a "BBC iplayer" server.

KeepSolid VPN doesn't get my recommendation. Likely why it was free.

I did also try a GPS location changer in case apps were getting my location from that. It seems either the VPN doesn't work or streaming companies do a decent job of tracking your actual location.
