Vpower - BMW Users

I use VPower however simply because by pulling into the garage and picking up the red pump, you send a signal to other motorists - you are reminding them your car is better than theirs, and you are thus a better person than them. VPower is more manly. And for this, its worth 7p a litre any day of the week.

Imagine using the normal pump. What would people think? That you had... a Ford?

HAHAH :D

my old BMW sounded and felt a bit smoother after a few consecutive tanks of Vpower... I didnt notice any difference in consumption or power though...

Are there any reports anywhere which actually show a statistical advantage. Say, do a test with 1000 miles of using normal fuel, then 1000 miles of using V-Power, and compare the average MPG?

The handbook states that in order to maintain quoted fuel economy and power figures you should use 98 RON fuel. I have, however, never noticed a difference between 95 and 98 RON fuel.

haha, nice one!:D

I was under the impression you will see the benefits by using two consecutive full tanks which will allow the cars ECU to adjust accordingly.

I used BP Ultimate before fuel started to really go up and I did return some slightly better MPG. I had to drive a few mile out of my way to try it, but I didn't find it worth the effort/cost.

The best thing about V-Power is the toys they sometimes give you. Its like Christmas come early when they hand you a little plastic Ferrari or a V-Power baseball cap

Oh and the V-Power drivers club card looks better in my wallet.

I use V-Power in my RX7 as it's mapped for it. Also use it in my E39 525i as the owners manual recommends it. Haven't tried regular unleaded, but I doubt it would make much noticeable difference. I'm getting around 30-35mpg in the BMW, about 75% motorway and 25% town driving.

With my old E36 M3 I used to suffer from pinking when I used 95 RON, but that's the only car I've ever noticed a real difference in.

I remember Evo ran an article on the different fuels at a rolling road.

The thing is, not all cars will see an advantage from it though.

The Westfield was mapped on BP Ultimate, so that's what we run it on (and it's a race engine). But mums Clio is stock and designed to run on 95RON so there's no point in spending the extra.
AFAIK both the Westfield and Clio have 'knock' sensors so will detect if the fuel is less RON than they're mapped for and adjust accordingly........ but I don't think they can adjust for using better RON than they're mapped for.

Also I remember at the 2007 Autosport International BP had a stand with a 911 on a rolling road and were showing how much extra power it made with the BP Ultimate..... and it was a fair bit.

Has anyone here tried the 'super' diesels, as I haven't seen a comparison of them?

Disclaimer: Incase I get done by the BMW police, we've got a 5 Series on order......

Just thought I'd bump this..A slight change of events

Had been using previous 3 tanks with VPower then reverted to 95 when I got caught short the other day.Have to say the economy has dropped by all of 1MPG on average (my driving style/route is the same) with the 95

but I have definetely noticed some difference in performance, I'm not sure if it's placebo but it seems a lot smoother with the Vpower with 95 it seems lacking, I can't put my finger on it it just is.

Needless to say based on this I will be going back to Vpower placebo or not it just feels better :p

1mpg is within margin of error - even with the same driving style its possible a few extra queues or a different road one day could account for 1mpg.

but over a few days collected average?

Not sure tbh. I only saw it dip to that when I was caning it a bit harder during the Vpower fills I've been driving like a saint recently.

Hmm.
