As there seem to be so many new releases daily, can we use this thread to post your reviews and recommendations of what and what not to buy/try for VR?

Ping Pong.

Table tennis to us folks, released last week. Short and sweet, it offers up the perfect 1/1 experience, the physics are perfect. Played the game a lot in my teenage years, it's all I remember it being.

Don't be put off by the stylization, you'll spend you're time engaged on the game at hand.

In the space of the week the developer has enhanced the game quite a bit on feedback, always a good sign.

You can now set the depth and length of the table, making it much more friendly on roomspace, and enjoyable to play. It is very limited beyond the core game though, all your getting is a simple arcade/practice and knockout cup. No multiplayer.... extras such as custom bats/tables would all be welcome.

Worth a few quid if you like table tennis, yes. Would something of the like rockstars table tennis trump it, hell yes, the game really suits vr.

I've tried loads, probably 40+ games and demos, some are just a 10 minute play and then that's it but my most played so far are:

Project cars (14hrs) - It's taken a good few hours to get the settings optimal for VR and mysetup but i'm loving every minute.

Job Simulator (9hrs) - Well more like 8hrs for the kids and 2hrs for me. Good game but once you've completed each scenario that's about it, not one I can see myself going back to but great for a demo

Space Pirate Trainer (6hrs) - I literally have to fight the Mrs to get a look in, very simple yet addictive. Great for a quick blast when you've not got much time. I would say a must have.

Fantastic Contraption (6hrs) - Probably not for everyone but I'm an engineering type and love coming back to this game once in a while to try something new.

Final Approach (4hrs) - Great game although it does get a bit repetitive.

Brookhaven (2hrs) - Played the demo and loved that now got the full game and it's excellent. I would have put in more time but I can not do long sessions as it still scares the crap out of me and makes me sweat. Again a must have if you've got the nerve.

I have got my oculus working quite well with DCS flight sim, sitting in the cockpits of the Huey, A10 and Gazelle is amazing. I found flying the huey easier to keep in hover as I have a better sense of movement.
I even took avoiding action after flying toward a flock of birds!
I've played some games via the steam vr cinema which was ok but maybe needs some change to the FOV.

Vanishing Realms.

I have been playing this for a couple of hours this morning.

I never thought I would be crawling on my belly, under the swinging axes, to get at a treasure chest. Sword fights with the skeletons are pretty good.

Portal Stories.

It's a bit short, but I hope we get portal 3 as a full vr game, it works very well.

Dirt Rally
Project Cars
Windlands
DCS World
AssettoCorsa
CrystalRift
Luckys Tale
Mythos of the world axis
Affected (v1.62)
Duke VR
UltimateBooster
No limits 2 roller coaster simulator

Of all these I would say Dirt Rally favourite. Mythos is the most 'different/interesting' game which really showcases how different game styles will work great in with VR. I would definately buy the full game (when there is one)

I've been playing Farlands all weekend and I'm convinced of two things - one, the gfx hit the absolute sweet spot for VR, balancing detail and cartooneyness with the low res display and two - this would only work in VR.

The concept is insane. You just bum about a weird planet taking photos of things and doing a bit of fishing but where it comes into it's own is the sense of presence and the fact that bumming about a planet taking photos of things totally works in VR. Nothing to shoot, nothing to run away from, no puzzles to solve, just bumming about and taking photos.

VR is a brand new platform and "We don't know the rules yet" is something I keep hearing from devs and content creators. Farlands is a kinda posterboy for that notion. I reckon the next couple of years are going to be a procession of bizarre things out of leftfield that make so much sense in an HMD

Correct re bizarre new game styles in the next year year. Hopefully it will be like the days of Amiga again when brand new genres are created (which we now know of today)

Farlands however I thought was rubbish and played it for 10 minutes. Windlands and Mythos are fantastic.

When the touch controllers are released in October / November time im pretty sure there will be even more different genres. It will be quite nice to have totally different genres to the usual regurgitated tripe like Call of duty 12 and Battlefield 9

Just tried Mythos. Short and confusing but sweet. Managed to unchain the teeth without really figuring out how the hell the spells worked but, yeah, interesting. I'm surprised by how cool, 3rd person experiences are in VR. Figured it'd be fps and cockpit sims all the way for me (no real change there then) but Lucky's tale is amazing. Helps that it's a pretty solid platformer even without VR.

I had no idea what I was doing in Mythos at first (didnt read instructions or anything) then I sort of just worked stuff out. Yep, 3rd person is a lot better than I thought too.

I can sense VR releases of Crash bandicoot, Pondemonium, Turrican, Superfrog, Donkey Kong, Metroid... Basically all the fantastic games that would be even better in VR :)

Really loving Brookhaven, makes me literally jump when one creeps up behind I didn't hear, a game hasn't done that to me in over 20 years. Unloading a Uzi into one up close with my tongue flat out my head as if I was there soaking it up.

Get Raw Data, you'll jump even more when you turn around a find a robot right next to you

If you haven't already, download the within app (it's on oculus store but I don't think it's exclusive) then try the "Catatonic" vid/experience thing. Genuinely freaked me out in places and I was weaned on horror movies.
