Had a relative over yesterday. Struggled to get him off DCS, flying my FW190. That was amusing.

Also re-installed War Thunder again for another go.
Found controlling the tank a little difficult. Easy enough to drive, but the turret control with a mouse was a bit of a mess.
Air combat. Well good and bad.
Great experience and very hectic. Felt like a scene out of the Battle of Britain with the number of aircraft around. Unfortunately, not all straightforward as:
- Still couldn't work out how to setup some controls. For example, tried setting "lock target" to a button on my CH Throttle in the controls menu. I click on the button, and three buttons pop up in the settings, NONE of which do anything useful in game
- I understand the mouse users were given some setting meaning that it's easier to fly using a mouse than a full on HOTAS. Whilst I kind of get that, does rather kill it for serious flyers (not me yet)
- My 1st real battle was at Normandy. Took out my reserve fighter (basically an unmodified starter mono-plane). Flying towards the front, and the enemy fly past me in a Mig 17 and a Hunter. Just WTF? How does a combat game allow the mixing of a 1950s jet with a pre-WW2 aircraft?
- Played combat missions for a couple of hours, then had to go sit in our bathroom for 10 mins, wondering if I'd puke. Had to laugh at that.

That's really weird, it's always ran perfectly for me. Im assuming Google hasn't helped with a solution at all then?

Nah no joy.

Casino VR is really fun btw. Free on oculus store and you can use as many guest accounts as you like (500 chips each time). Good laugh sitting around playing hold 'em round a table

Yeah the controls set up wizard is broken, has been forever.

Mouse users have no benefit given to them in simulator battles whatsoever, a little in realistic and all of it in arcade. Just play sim and it avoids click warriors.

The mix of aircraft is the biggest nono for me, its the reason I gave up playing high tier planes, and also tanks. I uninstalled the game last time it was that bad for high tiers. Also they've added guided rockets now which is just lol.

A question for yourself. I looked at the historic battles and spotted the Schwienfurt bombing raid, which I remember reading about as a kid. Always struck me as a brilliant potential scenario that could run for maybe a couple of hours, i.e. an hour each way from the coast of German to Schwienfurt and back again, with hundreds of bombers, bomber escorts and German fighters in droves.
Is the mission anything like that, or just a 10 min "snip" of the real thing with 20 bombers and a few fighters on either side? I found a video that implied it was a "snipped" version, which left me rather underwhelmed at the potential thrown away.

My guess is that I'll have to wait for DCS to introduce their planned Normandy terrain/campaign to get most of what I'd really like, which is fine, but DCS really aren't very quick about delivering stuff, regardless of how awesome it is.

not sure as I havent tried it later, I'll give it a go in a bit.

It should be mentioned though that the WT devs couldn't give a flying **** about realism, they will quite happily break aircraft perfomance if they are out performing their russian counterparts, and in a lot of cases realism is just abandoned in order to make money from premium vehicles you have to buy. If you want any sort of realism just stick to DCS in my opinion, but WT is good for messing about with.

Yeah the big downside of DCS is the price of the modules, the cheeky sods never put them on sale on steam either, only on their own website every other week and for that you need to download the standalone client.

That's nonsense. They have a sale at LEAST once a year. Maybe not as often as their own site but not "never".

Every module I've bought for DCS has been on sale through Steam.

Add them to your wishlist so you get told when they're on sale and just wait it out.

I'll add them to my cart but tbh the prices are making me want to use the standalone now.

They're also never discounted as much as on their own site, although I'll say I think all the modules are worth full price but I can't spare the cash to get them all :(
