my nephew wants a vr headset, he currently has a system with a Radeon rx570 and a ryzen 1600

He has around £250 , what would suit him best ?

I was kinda hoping to get something new for him as I don't want to end up lumbered with sorting things out if anything goes wrong

He has an xbox 1 , wonder if it's worth him looking to swap it for a ps4 and get the ps vr?

He has an xbox 360 , wonder if it's worth him looking to swap it for a ps4 and get the ps vr?

you won't swap to the PS4 and get the PSVR all for £250.

Maybe just get a cheap WMR headset? They are going for next to nothing now.

For £250 your options are a 2nd hand Oculus Rift, you should be able to find one with 3 sensors for that price.
Or a WMR headset, you could probably get a new one for that price.

You could manage that for £250 but you'd definitely need to go with a second hand PS4 and PS4 VR headset. CEX sell the headset for £125 and I believe it comes with a warranty (90 days?) from them so that might be your best option of he's willing to switch to PS4. In fact I reckon for £250 you could just about afford a second hand PSVR headset AND a used ps4 console?

Might be worth checking out your local CEX store, ebay , classified ads,etc to see what they have?

If he wants a PC VR headset I'd say a second hand Oculus rift is definitely the way to go. Don't be seduced by a cheap WMR headset even if it is new. There's a reason everywhere is flogging them off for peanuts!

He’s 13, he won’t get £150 any time soon

Thanks for the help everybody

I think the oculus or vive 2nd hand is the way to go

Ahh if hes 13, get an Oculus CV1.

A Vive second hand will probably be as expensive as a rift S because the light houses aren't cheap new.

Strange statement. Why would he have to buy 'new' lighthouses if purchasing a 2nd hand Vive?

Going back 2 years Vives have gone for around £250/300, I was often tempted to buy one for replacement spares. In fact there's one of on the MM right now that the OP was enquiring about for less than £250

Jbuk Provided that vive is in good working order, then that's a good price. Make sure that tracking is working, check the touch pads on the controller, and the cable is in good order. I used one for 3 years without a problem, great device for a first timer.

You misread my strange statement. I meant the vive bundles are more expensive, even second hand, because light houses have held their value whilst CV1 sensors are trash now.

However that deal you posted was very good! I'd have been tempted to bite on that..!

Race you Rusty!

To add my two pennies - I had a PSVR and was looking for a HMD for my PC. I mainly play sims so WMR suited me perfectly and meant I didn't have hassle of light houses / wiring / etc. Had my Odyssey+ for a while but the cheaper options available in the UK still get good reviews...
