VRAM - AMD/Nvidia, why does it differ?

Out of curiosity. I ran BF4 at 1440P with Ultra settings and that slider thing upto 200% and wow.

That is almost touching the 4GB mark. Never mind 2GB not being enough, 4GB isn't enough either.

Yea but you know full well on a titan that touching 4gb is probably under 3gb needed.

At those settings its not far from 4K, on ultra.

erm? no, what gives you that idea?

He has a point, as I would assume pushing the slider to 200% makes for proper Ultra settings and I was massively over 3GB as you can see.

I of course don't think that what is being used is what is needed but I do remember being told by a couple of people that it is caching for a reason and it therefore is needed.

I am curious as to what 3GB users see at those settings and 1440P.

Thats not what he's saying, he thinks i said 3GB is not enough and surprised at it, i didn't.

Lol at not trying the 2Gb for testing.

'almost touching the 4Gb', doesn't equate to '4Gb isn't enough either', I blame the schools really.:p

Need For Speed Rivals, Frostbite 3.0.

Highest in game settings, 1440P, motion blur disabled. 150% resolution scaling. Check out the vram usage. Image one was a few seconds after loading into the map. Perfectly playable fps too, so plenty of grunt in the tank. 30fps i hear you cry? Yeah the devs hard lock it at that for consoles. Its things like this what could mean mantle is a god send. No SLI support for this game, but crossfire works well. Anyway, check this out yo.

Good Grief. is that 5GB + on the Vram?

Oh... and who was it who told me the 7990 was only 3GB because its essentially two 7970's glued together?

2.5gb vram usage once the game loads with those settings. It can go a bit lower or a bit higher depending on which part of the map i start on. Always well over 2gb with these settings though. I can turn res scaling up more i will try that shortly. I have some more images to upload, but that site above lowers the quality. Can someone recommend a host that won't bodge the image quality? Needs to be at least 3mb per image.

No, that is basically what I was saying. If you turn the setting up to max it looks like it uses more than 3GB VRAM. Originally I thought this was at 1440p, but thinking back, Greg is only running 1080p?
So on higher resolution monitors 1440p/1600p I'd guess it would be even worse?
Not to mention 4K monitors or multiple screen gaming!

I was then a bit shocked that given the rarity of card with more than 3GB that we can be exceeding 3GB VRAM already!

I use Photobucket. if you post the Direct link it gives you the image on site in a thumbnail, with a magnify icon, click on it you have a popout. click on the magnifier again and you get the full image.

A bit the log way round but its the best way i know of.

I only go over my 2GB if i set 1080P and 150% res- scaling. so thats 1600P, ish. 3GB is plenty for 1600P

Thanks Tommy. I remember once i gave you some stick for using this site, but now i know why. ;)

Check these screens out. Can't tell you how nice the textures look at 150% res scaling. Will ramp it up further shortly.

2mb max file size, no good.

Its gorgeous, i recognise the FB 3 engine in it, cranking up the res- scale really makes a difference in this and BF4.

I've never tried it in BF4 before tbh as in that id rather keep fps higher but i may be able to increase it a little bit to 105-110% or something. I will now try Rivals with 200%. Pretty sure ill exceed the vram limit but we'll see. I only have a 2gb page file so im expecting a crash if i do. :p

I run it at 125%, about as high as i can get with a safe Vram buffer, it doesn't make a huge diffrence, not like 150% +, but it reduces those jaggies a bit and sharpens the image a little.

Frame Rates are still very good, not to much of a hit.
