Vsync - Stutter when dropping below 60FPS.

Been playing a lot of Skyrim lately and Vsync is on by default and you can't turn it off without editing an .INI file.

Trouble is, when you turn it off by the INI file I've noticed a few issues such as stuttering even the FPS is high.

Back to my original question, with Vsync on, when my FPS drops below 60 I'll notice a mili second of lag. It doesn't sound like much but it can get pretty annoying... It'll happen even when the FPS dips to 58 for instance.

Is their a way I can fix this in some driver settings or something?

Thanks

What card have you got? Have you tried forcing v-sync off in your graphic card software? (ie Nvidia control panel)

With an nVidia card you can enable adaptive VSYNC which will disable VSYNC when the framerate drops below 60fps.

Got a 5850 1gb.

I never thought about forcing vsync off but I feel it'll give me the stuttering problems.

That adaptive vsync sounds good, anyone know if it's in ccc?

Cheers

Vsync has to be on either in ini or forced via DXoverrider, it should make a DING sound when the game is loaded up with the application running to say it's working. Just make sure TripleBuffering is turned on in the application profile.

The lag you're talking about is the FPS dropping to 30 instead of 60. It's just how it works.

Does anyone know how well frame limiters work for this kind of thing, so you could disable Vsync?

My FPS isn't dropping to 30 though... It drops to the lowest of about 50, and in that process of it dropping is where I notice the stutter.

With Vsync on the displayed frame rate on the screen will be either 60 or factors of 60. It's just how Vsync works, to synchronise with the frequency of the monitor. If it goes below 60fps it would go to 30.
