VTX3D what they like?

If the retailer doesn't cover the warranty, steer well clear. RMA seems absolutely non-existent for European customers of VTX3D, Powercolour, and Club3D (all the same parent company) if dealing with the manufacturer.

yeah i thought the gigabyte (7970 - uses a nearly identical cooler) was physically flimsy too, and i also noticed the missing vrm heatsink, and the one that wasn't missing seemed very puny.

but ok, fair enough. my point was just in response to the thought that the only difference between cards is the cooler. my conjecture about the vtx cards was just that- guesswork :p.

i think i read somewhere that retailers are full of bs regarding the "12 month" thing but i'd have to look it up properly. in fact i'm almost certain you can claim a repair with the retailer up to 6 years after the original purchase, but again i'll need to look this up again

ok so it's something like this: you have the warranty with vtx3d (powercolor), and then separately under SOGA you have a maximum of 6 years in which you can claim to the retailer (ocuk) that your item has broken due to manufacturing faults (rather than misuse or normal wear and tear). the retailer isn't offering a warranty but they're still responsible under the purchase contract. if your cards break you could plausibly argue that expensive graphics cards shouldn't just die under normal use within 6 years, and the retailer should offer a full or partial refund, replacement, or repair.

regarding manufacturer warranties, you should also be able to request that the retailer deal with the warranty process throughout its entire duration (within 6 years), again under SOGA. so if your cards break at any time within the 2 year warranty, just tell ocuk that your items broke when they shouldn't have, and ocuk should deal with the entire process for you. again, after this period you still have 4 more years in which ocuk is responsible for your items.

in other words it seems like it's very difficult for the customer to get f---ed over in this country, so don't worry :)

Yeah you would think so but i think most retailers (Maybe not OCUK like i said never dealt with them so i cant be sure) simply fob off customers on their ignorance and will say things like we cover 12months etc hell maybe the people on the phone are actually told this is true and so don't know any better but like i said the fact that OCUK have forums makes me think they do care about the customers more than other retailers...

i should have added "as long as you know what you're doing" after my last bit, because you're right. the guides i've read on this stuff only exist because the vast majority of people just believe the lies they're told by retailers!

I've had almost two years of solid service from my VTX 6990 and it is still going strong. I would have another VTX card.

Currently running a vtx card no problems and have had powercolor previously the same no problems.I think part of the reason why the cards are cheaper is down to the packaging as you get next to nothing in the box apart from the card, with my 7950 I got the card , a driver cd and a mini display port adaptor and that's it.

@ OP have you enquired with ocuk with regards who deals with the warranty ?

No I had hoped that someone from ocuk would have chimed in on here maybe they can now =)

I wouldn't expect too much regarding the six year thing, if that was the case nobody would ever have to pay to upgrade, nothing last forever so if you can confirm ocuk deal with the two years that's a result.

well it's the law, so...
to be fair you have to prove that you didn't break it, and the coverage only gets you so far. for example you couldn't claim that a £15 toaster should last 6 years, but i don't think it's unreasonable to expect a very expensive piece of hardware to last more than a couple. even then the amount of compensation you get varies depending on use, time owned, etc. it's not as silly or abusable as you think.
