Wall Sockets with USB C

I thought of doing this.
But a couple of sockets have the standard USB 5v 2A supplies and I just use a wall charger. I think of how many times I've changed chargers over the years... Just not worth it.

Stop faffing about and get a double socket with USB A and C plugs in it. They are common as much and I put a load in the house where chargers permanently take up space in the plug socket, meaning two free sockets for actual useful things.

usb C way way better than rubbish micro usb.

Vs usb A I do appreciate not needing to look I am putting in right way and doesnt feel any more flimsy vs type A to me.

The problem here is that there is hardly any type C devices out there, all my usb sticks are type A even recent high end ones I purchased, usb type C seems mostly used on phones and new console controllers at the moment, and even then on my xbox controller they made the end that goes in the console type A. Same with PS5.

It is a tough one as most devices have limited usb c, so for that reason vendors will be limited to make usb c devices s restricts their market, but until usb c is in bigger numbers board manufacturers will restrict usb c socket, dog chasing tail situation.

watching the BBC highlights. So much more class in the commentary. Guy Mowbray I think. He tramples all over that ITV muppet.

Until the cost of a USB-C port is the same or lower than a USB-A port or the USB alliance phase out USB-A we will not see the complete adoption because manufacturers will prefer to save a few pence per device than put on the better port.

I hope the usbc port is future proof enough. I'd say I'd 85 percent of my stuff is now usbc.

All these are C:
Laptop
Bike lights
Gopro
Phone
Battery charger
Car induction charger
Desk induction charger
Power Bank

But some is still micro like my dslr battery charger and amplifier

But not many

Obviously I've been specifically sourcing C stuff

I've been looking into USB C wall plug outlets and if you search for Knightsbridge USB-C they offer a fast charge version to speed up charing.
It won't be the quickest as those Anker or Aukey specific fast chargers you can buy but if you want to avoid adapters and plug heads you can get the Knightsbirdge USB C

Just a word of warning, they are priced around £35 per unit so not cheap as conventional USB sockets but they don't offer fast charge capabilities. And also you may need deeper back boxes as have more to house and therefore need more space when recessed.

I've got one in my study, need to install another in my hall way but I'm trying to think which wall outlets in my house I tend to need to charge my devices.

We've got about 4 locations in the house with standard USB type A sockets and they're invaluable for charging or running items we don't need fast charge for; Amazon Fire TV, Bluetooth speakers, headphones & earbuds. The list goes on. Brilliant.

If I could get one with QC 3.0 I absolutely would if for less then £30. I'd have it for my desk and save sockets for charging devices.

I really don't get how fervent the argument has become. If it doesn't work for you, don't get it. If you are a value, do. Simple.

Very handy imo.

can a phone be damaged if its not the matched up rating, as there is different spec'd chargers for different phones so e.g. what happens if you use say 60w charger on a 40w charge rated phone?

Nothing

However if you have a 200w device (I'm thinking in the next year or two) but your crappy £35 quid socket can only output 60w, then you need to go around and replace all your sockets viz-a-viz just buying a new charger.

Wattage is pulled not pushed (in a basic analogy)
The socket isn't pushing out its max power potential. Otherwise everything would fry.

Voltage however...that works with current. That must match.

No, QC and PD use different protocols and voltages.

Devices handshake for the higher power over the normal 5v. You shouldn’t be able to kill a device by plugging in a QC device to a PD plug, it should default back to 5V 1A or just not work.

I guess all current chargers on market use same voltage?
No, and this is the thing. Chargers are no longer dumb pipes that force juice down a hole. This is why it doesn't make sense to make them part of your "core infrastructure" as the standards will change and evolve. Unless of course you aren't bothered by quicker charging or you won't be charging laptops via them.

Whats the most powerful (watts) wall power socket to date?
The "fast charge" one posted above is 20w per port if both in use, or slightly higher if just the fast charge port is used. Read the reviews and you'll see a lot of complaints that it barely charges the most popular devices at the stated speed. Avoid. Junk. E-waste.
