Wallace and Gromit are back!

I thought the Wrong Trousers was their 1st film/short but Wiki has A Grand Day Out (which I've not seen) as their 1st!

I have seen the Wrong Trousers and a Close Shave.

I've also seen the Baker's Dozen, but that title isn't showing on Wiki. Have I got my wires crossed with something else?

I can't tell from the 2024 trailer if CGI is used. If it is, then I like that it has kept the original animation style.
I remember watching The Wrong Trousers in about 91 at school, one of the teachers had got a copy on film (I think*) and we watched it in a lecture hall. From what I understand most of the school probably saw it over the space of a couple of days before the print had to go somewhere else.

I think that was their first short film for their own purposes, but they'd been doing work for the BBC and ITV etc for quite a while.

I think I would have preferred an AI Peter Sallis for the voice. Will get used to he new guy obviously, but AI voice generation is already good enough for something like this. As long as his family would have been OK with it mind.

Edit: Mind you, I admit I haven't actually heard his impression, so maybe it will be indistinguishable anyway.
I'm very glad they went with a human, it might sound a bit different to Sallis but will be much better than any of the AI generated stuff, it means an actual actor gets a job and is IMO much more respectful to Sallis and his family given that I very much doubt he gave permission for his voice to be used that way after his death (and as an actor he'd probably understand and agree with a new actor taking the role on).

*It was on a proper projector I think.

This looks great :)

Reminds me of a time when we used to get the 'bumper' TV guide which had a whole two weeks of listings over Xmas.

I would carefully go through it to see what delights were on offer, and have a couple of blank tapes at the ready for recording some films for keeps.

This would definitely be on the list of things to record, and with my video+ that was an absolute doddle! :D

No BBC for me, have to wait for other sources.
I definitely don't enjoy the more modern ones compared to the originals though, they have so much character.

It was alright. The joy from W&G is basically the audience sympathising and routing for Gromit. There was plenty of Gromit action which was great. The gnomes were a mixed bag as they were cool when they were in ‘creepy mode’ but insufferable otherwise.

Feather’s McGraw is a one note joke already spent, which worked well in the Wrong Trousers but couldn’t prop up a film length feature IMO.

There was a little bit of ‘growth’ in the commentary re: relying on technology but they message was a little mixed in the end. I though that A Matter of Loaf and Death was better in that regard with the romantic interests adding something fresh, especially for Gromit.

A Close Shave remains my fav.

I enjoyed the new W&G :-)

One of its themes was on AI and IoT. When it works well, it works well, but if it's mistreated or it falls into the wrong hands, it goes haywire. This film highlights the dangers of this when it happens.

Although it was overall a good ending, the bad guy got away. This means there will be another W&G film!

It was good but felt too long for what it was. Curse of the Wererabbit felt more film length, this felt like one of the shorter episodes stretched out.
