Wallets

Don't tell you have never seen them? I use mine daily, will update this great thread at Christmas when the wife gets them really expensive crackers from asda

I like my wallet classic and simple

Must have

Real Leather
Single fold
Enough slots for 8 cards

Must not have

No window for cards - reason being they take up more space with a flap and how often do you need to show someone your ID, in a nation that is against ID cards too with no obligation to carry one. If we are in Hong Kong or something where carrying an ID card is mandatory then I would understand. Plus they get dirt and fluff trapped in them all the time and it shows in the window.

No chain attached - I am not 15 with a skateboard

No zips, no buttons - zips jam and makes it bulky, buttons causes stress to the leather when you pull them out and stretches that part of the leather and they make the wallet thicker

No coin pockets section - again, makes the wallet really thick

Currently have a Diesel, bought it on sale at £25. Every few months a quick wipe with leather cleaner and its good as new.

Call me old fashioned, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

what do you folks do with change? ie coins? i would like to go card only but sometimes you need a few quid about. whether it be for a trolley or what not.

money clips to me look the dogs nuts but then you always have the change issue as you will no doubt need to spend the cash at some point.

Raymond, you said you dont like a coin pocket, what do you do?

i currently have a Kenneth Cole but the coin pocket zip has broken already. (was a present from my daighter for father day last year)

Coins go in pockets, isn't (edit- that) what pockets are for? If you're wearing jeans then they have dedicated coin pockets where a few pound coins will easily sit.

I like my leather Fossil single fold wallet, fits all my cards (10 in + 3 business cards) as well as notes and 2nd compartment for a few receipts.

I used to have a separate tiny coin purse thing for my change, i liked that as I could keep it separate. Now I just put coins in my pocket, when I get to my car I put it with the rest of the change which I use for parking meters. Every now and then I take out all the little ones like 1-5p coins and spend it with my shopping in the self serving machine. They all get used and I don't have to carry it around.

Or if I have a messenger bag on me, which is more often than not, I throw it into that, I rarely have coins in my actual pockets.

For trolley I have a key ring coin thing on my keys.

Don't like money clips as it put all the cash on show and it seems pointless to clip like 2 x £20 notes together. That it feels like I am showing off to people and shouts "hey, look at this wad of cash I've got" when reality I only have £30 on the clip.

What did I say? :p

Wallets should be simple. Keep it simple and they will last. I've tried a lot of wallets in the past.

I've had fabric wallets with chain (I was young) - it was cool for a while, I could swing it around but eventually the chain is annoying, even when the chain is taken off it still has that ring hole that now does nothing, a constant reminder of the chain that I had. Fabric also traps dirt in the textile. Hard to clean

Had tri-fold, far too tick for trouser pockets

Had one with see through ID card flap - the clear plastic window got dirty from behind and was hard to clear and eventually the glue/adhesive gave way and the entire plastic window came from the leather after a couple of years and fell off so I end up with a hole.

Had a wallet with coin section, was fine apart from it was too thick. I see people with them a lot from serving behind the till at my dad's place, you can see people just stuff all the change in there and the wallet is now about 3- 4 inches thick when folded.

And don't like the wallets with the button clip that "closes", the one that goes round the edge from one side to the other, those are the first to break.

Then you keep too much in your wallet. Mine is easily thin enough to go in my trousers. Unless you are a "skinny" wearing oddball?

You must be incredibly filthy and/or rough with your wallet. My previous wallet (which I've kept in case I find it hard to find a replacement) still has a perfectly clear "window", and isn't falling apart. It's at least 7 years old.

The only other thing I can't stand are wallets with pull-out card sections. I mean, why?

I can only state my experience with them, and my experience tells me that Tri-fold is thicker, mathmatically it is 50% thicker the moment you fold it again, so it cannot be thinner than a single fold. My experience also came to the conclusion that it simple is best.

As for the ID card window, I stand by my views in both their practically (zero in this country) and durability from my experience, and if a Police Officer pull you over and ask to see your driver's licence, he would wants to see your ID, and asks you take it out of the wallet for him so the window is pointless there too.

Sorry, mine is a Kenneth Browne, not cole.

Raymond, its everything you hate.

tri fold, button around the edge, coin pockets and a clear-ish platic thing for ID. haha

it is real leather though which is a plus.

i may have to rethink my approach on wallets.

there was always a reason i didnt keep change in my pockets, back pockets to me are redundant as when you sit down you get all kinds of lumps in your arse.

i keep my wallet in left pocket and phone in the right. i dont put change in my right pocket in fear of scratching the phone, which leaves the left pocket. which my wallet is in so why not just put it in there.

i hate change in general. whenever i have change i empty it into my little girls piggy bank anyways. except quids+

It was just a (poor) general comment I posted while only paying half attention. Wasn't aimed at you in particular. Apologies :)
