Want a $6000 CD player for £15?

I found it in my girlfriends wardrope/cupboards along with a Audiolab 8000s, 2x 8000a, a standard CD63, Mission Freedom box shelf speakers (think 752 can't remember), Epos ES11 speakers, full Pioneer seprates system with the pro cd player, a very rare make of cd player that I can't remember the brand logo looked like a ohm sign and my prise find a Linn LP12 turntable with a lot of mods. As you can imagine I was like a kid in a candy shop with that lot I just couldn't believe it when she kept on bringing more bits out ! To cut a long story short her uncle was a hifi repair man and her dad bought the lot off the family as a favour when he passed away for £200 not knowing what it was worth.

I sold the kit on for them but got the 8000s/CD 63 Ki Sig/Mission speakers/Es11s/LP12 for free for doing so, I use the system in my pc room and it sounds pretty good. I have a Marantz 6000 KI sig modded for my main system but I have owned that from new.

That is awesome, I have a 8000s hooked up to a pro-ject debut turntable, looking for a new cd player. Would love a Linn...can I have it?

Jammy Dodgem!!

I can't believe I threw away my CD-63 just because the laser had packed up, on the advice of Richer Sounds, Grrr.

What always scared me a bit was that there was loads of other hifi bits that went to the tip ! From some vague descriptions I think a Rel Senator sub and Quad electrostatic speakers went the journey as they looked old  There must have been some pre amp/ power amp for the cd player I sold on as it had balanced outputs and the cables for it but nothing to plug them into I dread to think what pre/power amp may have ended up in the tip.

I ended up giving the LP12 to my dad as he as a large record collection who spent some more cash on it and it sounds stunning better than any digital source I have heard.

The CD63 Ki Sig sounded very good thats how I ended up getting my CD 6000 Ki Sig upgraded as it blew it away sound quality wise leading to the discovery it had been tweaked, sadly I rarely listen to CDs now. Although reading about the PS1 I should have been using one of these instead.

Well it would be really funny if the PS1 was that good.... I mean Sony would have made a gaming station sound better than it's CD players, by accident ! ....... Did I see it connected up with some $950/meter interconnect cables ???
So from posts in the past, we are not to believe cables make any difference....unless of coarse they are used to make a games console sound better than a $6000 CDP.....LOL
Like the second post...... Welcome to the Internet ;)

You know you want to mod it :D

I think oil_collett has rubbed off on me a little as well as my job. Now I want evidence and full comparison tests between everything :(
I dug it out today, now I've got to find some CD's... I've given it a quick go with a Leftfield album and it does sound nice, but I don't think it sounds very neutral. :)

A legendary internet story this one but you summed up the irony quite well, how no-one mentioned that the guy was a total muppet for using a interconnect costing £1k seeing how all cables/interconnects are identical .....yet somewhat willing to believe this story that the PSX is a great disc player.

I was always under the assumption that Analogue cables can benefit from better quality wiring and shielding, and that is was only digital where it doesnt matter?

yes, but only up to a point - when you're paying more than about £50 for an analogue cable then you can officially consider yourself a muppet.

Lol I used to have two ps1's so I could do a link up in my bedroom with Doom, those were the days.

Slightly off topic I remember those days aswell setting up a token ring network and networking the PCs in DOS so we could play Doom in my parents back room. We even had a modem setup so we could dial in a friend who couldn't always make it luckily my dad didn't seem to mind the phone bills !
