Im one of those that never bothered with credit cards or loans, overdrafts ect or anything on tick, the only thing i pay monthly is my mobile phone contract which is paid on time every month.

But now i've seriously thinking about getting myself a brand new car, as i've never had one.

So went to credit expert.co.uk to see my credit report.

which they gave me a scoring of 807 to which they say is fair.

Would this scoring be enough to go get myself a nice new car, or would i need more.

As i don't want the embarassment of nipping down to the showroom only to be told i can't have one.

Are you quite sure you want a brand new car simply because "you've never had one"? It's not really the best reason....

I'm thinking about getting a brand new goat, as I've never had one. I mean thats the best reason to get something, right?

You've got a pretty average at best credit rating, you dont seem to be swimming in cash, a brand new car probably isn't a great idea?

when your driving about in a 10 year old punto, that sqeaks and you can feel every little bump in the road then yes I think it a good reason to get a new car :D

When you are driving around in a 10 year old Punto, a 3 year old Focus will feel like a Rolls Royce. So it's actually a good reason NOT to get a brand new car.

I've never had a brand new car, and I don't plan to.

Buy yourself a 1 or 2 year old car, and save yourself a load of cash.

I paid good money for that experience...

You're just confirming that you are not really in a position to afford a new car. Why not get nice 3 year old car that you can afford with out loans?

between 10 years and brand new, you have a grey area filled with more compelling options. A 6 month old car will already be singnificantly depreciated and will be no different from new.

I have done new in the past, but it was pretty exceptional circumstances (very mates rates deal) but never would normally. When you decide your budget look at what you can buy new and then look at what you can buy that is in excellent condition but a couple of years old. No brainer.

Buy yourself a used BMW , after a 10 year old Punto, even a scruffy e36 328i such as mine would feel like a brand new car!

Do you like the idea of throwing a couple of grand down the pan? No? well thats just what the experience of taking delivery of a new car will feel like because as you drive off the dealers premises, thats exactly what will happen.

Good idea, he really seems like the right chap to take on a money pit. Top class advice.

Why not go the whole hog and make it a V8.

Come on he drives a Punto and has a 'fair' credit rating. I really don't think an old BMW is a fantasticly brilliant suggestion, is it?

He clearly needs to buy a 3-6 year old normal hatchback. It'll suit him perfectly, not cost him a fortune to run and will feel great after his Punto.

Splendid, im going to have a few tonight to recover from that battle with the traffic, this thread should move along nicely.

Dont go getting yourself in debt, get yourself a nice tidy 3 year old version of whatever you were thinking of getting new.

What were you thinking of getting by the way?

I'm in, i'll de-cork one.

This has to be a terrible reason to buy a brand new car, especially if you're not sure you can do it.

Please rethink...

Talk about miss the point Fox!

Which was even a shabby e36 would feel like the new car he desires after a POS Fiat.

Money pit or not, the build quality of any BMW - even a 316 - is vastly better than a Fiat imo, the OP may then realise that a brand new car is actually not what he needs at all.

Anyway, whole hog has to be a V10 or 12 surely.... ;):D

To not get finance on a new car you need to be minus 5050304030305003040300300450403030505034 and called Raul Moat......and even then you'll get a Renault.
