Want a brand new car, but not sure if i can get one

Generally speaking there will likely be a fair few people in a similar position. Myself included. I don't know whether I'd get finance but I know I could afford the payments because I've only had a credit card about 6 months and until then it was just phone payments before that.

I do concede your point though :D

Anyone can get finance, its just a question of how much interest it will cost you.

Serious suggestion

A fiesta previous gen 1.4 or zetec s

Or a clio from the current gen about 06 or so

Every bit the same ride and quality as the new models ( far better than a punto from 2000 anyway

I suppose really my advice translates to " hatchback from 3-4 years ago" really

god even a modernish fiesta is better than a 10 year old punto even the newer puntos fall apart  and they are horrible to drive ( imo)

don't get a new car, get a nice modern ish second hand one like a focus if you need the size fiesta sized is better.......plus with a new car the insurance might be stupid plus you will have to insure it fully comm ( depending how old you are)

I came from a metro (97) to a 56 plate fiesta- a lot better plus its great to drive.

Just to straighten a few things out here, first up those that think im living below the poverty line im not, im in a good job earning good money & have plenty saving, the reason i don't have credit cards ect is that i've never needed them I usually pay for everything in full in cash hence why only fair credit rating.

Also the reason i drive a Punto is because it cheap to run & tbh never caused me any real problems ,the car itself is in great condition bodywork & engine wise it just the squeaking seats & horrid supension that **** me off.

I could easily slap down 6k on a second hand car if needed, but im one of those that thinks i don't want to end up buying something that could give me problems & having to be constantly in the garage hence no warranty, or not much of one that covers bugger having me folking out more, & yes even 2 year old cars start having problems.

The reason i was thinking of getting a new car is basically if anything does go wrong with it it covered by warranty.

I have my eye on a Black Focus Zetec S

What i forgot to mention is my old man pal works in a Ford showroom, so he could get me a decent deal if i wanted he did a a credit check for me & said there should be a problem plus i can use the Punto as trade in aswell.

If you're only rationale for buying new is for the warranty then get a Kia for it's 7 year cover. :p

With your £6k in savings you could get a 3 year old Focus, buy a 3rd party warranty and you wouldn't owe anybody a penny.

Failing that, get a £5k car and keep £1k to cover anything that could potentially go wrong with it.

If you don't want to blow your savings then get a bank loan for £6/7k and do the same. Although you'll be in debt it will be a lot less than you would be if you'd bought new and the rate would *probably* be better than you could get from a dealership.

As long as you do enough research, don't rush into it and find a cared for example, a 3 year old car with 1 owner and FSH really isn't that much of a risk.

A Focus Zetec-S, brand new, is circa £16,000. Are you really telling me you want to spend £10,000 extra on a car so you can get a warranty? Really?!

Did you not realise that approved used cars come with a warranty as well?

I got an ST220 3.0 V6 for 6 and a half and that came with a years warranty... what's your point again?

You've got a pretty average at best credit rating, you dont seem to be swimming in cash, a brand new car probably isn't a great idea?

How do you know how much cash he has from a credit rating. Also taking the average of credit ratings are 0-1000 score. 807 is in the excellent category and would result in "very likely" for credit.

No, it's 'fair' as he quite correctly states himself. There isn't really such thing as a 'Credit Rating' but one of the main credit reference agencies DOES allow you to pay and receive a 'rating'. Thing is almost everyone who does this ends up with 999, so to get much less than that indicates less than perfect credit.

Surely he should buy a Corsa, somebody once said it was the best all round car in the world for less than £20k?

Sure, if he wants a small, fun, fast hatchback with a fantastic interior, then a Corsa VXR would suit him perfectly. But as he's mentioned a Zetec-S, I can only assume he isn't after something quick.
