Some general tips for interweb geek meet ups.
1: The pub
it should always be a 'traditional' ish pub like a spoonies, as opposed to a gastropub/pub-club etc with a big sounds system [unless they have a god outdoors area where you can get away from the speakers]. there's nothing annoying than talking about finicky geeky things over a loud PA system - and lets face it, as geeks, discussing finicky geeky things [and pasty smashing, arf] is something that is likely to be happening.
2: Ony have one location
dont' start talking about moving on to other locations, unless that location is right next door. People turn up late, people get lost, and having everyone in one place all night is much better than having people turn up to the first pub ten minutes after everyone has headed over somewhere else.
3: food
For gods sake, always do food while drinking, at least initially - you never know who is going to be a complete lightweight and require stomach padding. Either a pub that does food that everyone can handle [spoonies is a save choice normally] or a pub that is next door to a good eatery. In London, The Brown Bear pub and The Empress curry house are the EPIC WIN combo for this.
4: Clubs:
unless everyone is meeting at 11pm, never do clubs after pubs - again, due to the potential lightweight factor. Do you really want to be holding back the hair of what is, effectively, a stranger, while they spend the whole night evacuating themselves in the club toilets [or worse...]
The above has worked for me for a good few years with a variety of internet types - car, computer geeks, goths, etc - the main trick is to make a solid plan, make it very simple, and stick to it like glue IME.
