Want to leave work BUT.....

@Minibiker ive started been in the same situation where the managers are trying to force me to understand problems that I've tried to work out and overcome but I can't.

It's starting to get to the point of bullying and I don't even want to be there because of the 'forceful' way they are acting. There is no HR department and it's a small business.

I don't intend to be there long now and I feel your frustration. I'm getting closer to walking out but I don't have children. I try to keep out the way from them as much as possible.

I spent 7 years working for a large online gambling company, loved the job, but it was management that finally forced me out. I couldn't put it with it anymore, I was being targeted by them and my wife and colleagues were telling me to fight, but in the end, I decided it wasn't worth the hassle. The problem is that I don't want to be managed, I can manage myself, what is needed is a leader and unfortunately, far too many people end up managing because it's easier than leading.

I walked and it was 3-4 months before I found another position, it was a tight 3-4 months as well and I bounced between a couple of jobs before landing where I am now. Money is nowhere near as good as I was on.

It can be done, but unless you're willing to work anything to stay afloat you may find it difficult. Without knowing your salary, expenses, savings, experience etc no one here can give you an real answer, but as the general opinion is find a job then leave it shows it's the best way. It can be done the way I did it, but you've got to be strong and very motivated, it's easy to get comfortable at home and not keep looking.

its just so much hassle nowadays to get a job, I really want to learn more about internals on computers and the building process but not sure what the course is called at colleges

Are you talking about the building process as in putting a PC together, or the building process as in actually building the components? If you mean the former then have a look at the Comptia A+ (its the base IT certification) you can self study which means if you actually want the certification then you only need to pay for the exams.

Has videos on A+, Network + and Security +, and all are free.

I left my job as a Sous Chef a bit under 18 months ago, to get a 1st line tech support job, and now in a second line apps support role and I started with no professional IT experience at all.

Think your plan to stick it out is the best, especially with a little one. Just keep working towards finding what you want to do and it will get better.

What I want to learn is the building process of a PC not the components... I'd love to be able to just have a broken pc and finding the solution to the problem... I will have a look at the video you've posted.. Thanks bud...

Then the A+ is the one that you want to have a look at then, it's literally Computers from the ground up, starts with the components, and works from there to things like basic networking and operating systems.

Right guys, New spanner in the works... My boss has now text all of us on our shift saying the following...

# anyone that turns up wearing the incorrect uniform will be sent home unpaid

#anyone later than 7 minutes after their start time will also be sent home without pay

Can they actually do this or is this work place becoming a joke....

Not that I do any of them but I'm looking out for my colleagues I do like

If uniform is provided or specified then why would anyone turn up in incorrect uniform?

Being late on a regular basis isn't a good sign either, I imagine it must be occurring regularly if management have put that in place, as for whether it's legal I don't know.

In this scenario you need to look out for yourself not colleagues, you can't force them to wear the correct uniform or turn up on time.

I'm not sure on the legal aspect off the top of my head but at the very least this will need to be pre-existing in your employment contract and agreed on individually in advance in person if done as an amendment to the current contract (in some very specific cases it can be changed as a collective thing without individual agreement).

The contract should already have conditions in regard to wearing correct uniform and there might be some aspect of implied terms in that regard - however from my understanding it doesn't sound like they are going about it the right way - if someone isn't wearing correct uniform they should be properly taken aside to discuss it with a manager and given a chance to rectify it depending on the situation unless it is a repeated breach of contract in regard to uniform or a very serious breach of expectations in which case the manager should perform a proper disciplinary which can involve subsequently sending them home without pay for the rest of the day (they should still be paid partially) anything else leaves the company open to legal action against them.

Well we have a couple of young lads that turn up late probably twice a week and one female on our shift doesn't wear her uniform t-shirt and last week was wearing flip flops in the warehouse because she had burnt feet from the sun the week before

I don't know on the legalities, but just do as he says for this. It's quite a simple task for work really.

Also 'building' computers, I can see why you'd want it for a hobby. But sadly most IT work will require more qualifications than building PCs these days.

Yeah I'm the well behaved guy at work... never do anything wrong and keep myself to myself...

I'm currently reading and studying the CompTIA A+ Book and then will sit the exam

This section of the forum offers some fantastic advice but what do you want people to tell you in this situation? You have a child, you need an income and you have a responsibility to provide for your family. Surely your only choices are 1) Ride it out or 2) Find another job

Yup this unfortunately.

In the OP's situation I would make my new job to find a new job asap and only resign when that was in place.

Making the mental decision to go can be fairly uplifting as you know you aren't going to be there long term. Turn up on time in your uniform and do your job but don't put yourself out once you made the decision as theres no point in doing any extra to move up the ladder or achieve a yearly grading. If you are that unhappy about it, leave mentally now and treat it as a stopgap to the next thing
