Wanting out of Virgin Media - who next?

Hutch,

It's on til at least the end of this month the bt line offer

You have to call up, (look for bt's number etc) or just use main one and play press the keypad until you're at new customer/line etc

Don't think it's advertised openly you really have to dig deep on the site

You sign an 18mth contract instead of 12mth, that's only difference

Hope that helps

If needed and you can't get a number i'll try and find the one i used to call

Cheers mate :) Going to give them a ring Tuesday when i get time

You are approximately 290 metres from the exchange. Note that this is the straight line distance - the actual cable length will be longer!

I have BE. enabled in my area. Is this distance good for getting ADSL?

i'm on Virgin at the moment, and whilst i have no real issues with my connection (DL @ 1.4mb/sec) they are trying to charge me £500 for recieving the luxury of them digging up my drive to fix a cable they didn't lay properly in the first place! I've cancelled all my D/D's and sent them a cheaque for the usual amount. They're getting pissy at me. Looks like i'm just going to make the switch if someone can confirm that ADSL would be ok :)

Thats good, mine says

You cannot receive 2Mbps ADSL
You may be able to receive 1Mbps ADSL

You are approximately 2.69km from the exchange

Oh well.

I am 1.64km away from the exchange, this does seem pretty far,

I have no complaints about my VM connection as i never reach the cap (who downloads 3 gig in 4 hours legally every day?)

But the price of the o2 adsl is swinging the balance (my current bill is around £75 a month including TV, phone and internet,) do you think it could compete with my VM connection?

From the samknows website i was 769 metres from my exchange.

So I changed to sky max package and I get 16 meg connection speeds so I am rather pleased.

To OP: 1K Straight line from exchange is pretty good, I'm 1.3K straight line (about 1.7k in copper) and I get 11megish and have been really happy with BE.

I used to get 15meg but I don't know what happened to that and havent really noticed the difference.

Hi, thanks for advice. I am enabled for BE although i live about 1k away from the exchange, is that good or bad?

is the cable 1km long, or are you 1km away (im terms of direct distance), because the cable could be 5km long because they have routed it like a bunch of monkeys would

well i just signed up for BT, I asked them to do a line check and they've said that my line should be able to support speeds of 6.5mb+ which as BT only do 8mb (i think) makes me hopeful of getting decent speeds on o2. BT line is being set up on August the 5th, so i guess i just need to introduce myself to Zombie and see if i can get myself some of that £7.50 o2 package :)

oh and they did cut down to £29.99 to enable the new line, offered to let me pay that over 6months as well. I passed on that but it might be handy for people who's funds are super tight.

Hmm...

You are approximately 562 metres from the exchange. Note that this is the straight line distance - the actual cable length will be longer!
» Your BT ADSL code is: GEGEGEZ

but without a BT line cant do any enquiries with be :( they tell me to get a BT line and ask again lol
Anyone in NE2 area or with thta BTW code that can give an example of speeds?

VM billing has been all over the place for the past few months, over charging and not giving what prices were meant to be. On top of which received a flyer today saying BB XL (20Mb) was no only £10/m for first 6 months then £20 after this, spoke to retentions who said this is incorrect and the bet package a new customer can get is exactly the same as Im on, despite my bill showing £37 for the BB (before discounts).

Really cant tally that up myself, they offer £20 but this goes upto £37 if you opt for more services doesnt seem to make sense to me

The area thing doesn't really work with ADSL in the same way as with cable (well, it can do to an extent, but it's not the same).

With that close a proximity to the exchange you *may* have a very nice line. I get 22mbit with that line distance on o2 for instance.

What LLU do you have available on your exchange?
