Wargamers?

Computer games > Table top games.

I mean I bought DOW for the PC. I still have armies of the things up in the attic and as far as I know they are worth a bomb. A 100+ Lead minature army of Tyranids and Genestealers for 40k approximately 18 years old. Painted up by a guy who took part in the Golden Demon Awards many years ago so each piece is probably worth in and around £20.

I bought Heroquest off ebay a while back ;) a great game to replay at christmas with plenty of beer.

I still glance at the Warhammer magazine, though it retails for about £5 now when I bought it, it was £1.20 - £1.50 and booster packs were a few quid now they are ridiculously priced.

Tabletop gaming rocks....once I got older it just got more difficult to get a regular group together, so now it's dead for me :( I still miss it a lot. Five or six guys and girls, a whole load of beer, a whole load of books and a whole load of dice - great mix. Used to be regular Tuesday nights - then Sunday afternoons....now never :(

I always wanted to try the Games Workshop stuff - closest I got was Battlesystem for AD&D (in particular the Bloodstone Chronicles I think they were called - something stone....grrrr) and some variant of Warhammer 40k that I can't remember the name of.

I used to play a lot of the GW games like 40K, Warhammer, Blood Bowl but my interest started to go as the miniatures got more expensive. I tried Warmachine recently and enjoyed that, it seemed to be a lot cheaper too with some great models.

Had some good times at my local gaming club (GUGS) wargaming but haven't been for a while. Might venture back someday if work quietens down.

I started playing a bit of Warhammer 40K a year or so ago but the models are so damn expensive. I enjoyed modelling my very small force of Grey Knights inc squad of GK Terminators AND my Inquisitor :D

However I just couldn't justify the amount of money. True the Grey Knights models are mostly metal, but even the plastic ones are very expensive. In short DoW is much cheaper lol.

Used to dabble in 40k quite a bit, never really played too much as frankly the rules are a bit cack, seem designed to be so complicated in places that they are easily open to manipulation, also came across far too may people who went entirely against theethos and sprit of their armies in order to win.

Don't bother now as the minatures are way too expensive, it's like 8 quid for 5 space marines whic is BS, and i found flames of war, far better game, the rules are so much better than that of warhammer, and frankly give me my soviet army with 30 T-34's charging around the battlefield with artillery and mass infantry support over any warhammer army :D

in an attempt to get some real hobbies other that computer gaming i did re take up 40k as ive always wanted to be able to paint, and the game from what i remember was very tactical and fun

haven't had much time for it really though... have painted the majority of my dark angels army to a very basic standard but haven't had the time to add any detail ... and im too cool to go to the local shop for a game, so dont have anyone to play ;)

ebay for the win on anyone looking to buy some, there are always people selling models on there for a fraction of the price they cost in the shops these days (which are a joke)

 I played 40k and spacehulk when i was a kid..

Bunking school to go to the GW on oxford street in my school uniform

I must have spent all my pocket money on those damn little metal figures.

I used to love painting them and used them quite a lot in my GCSE art projects (which i got an A in ehehe)

Then1 sad day i grew up and didnt really look back.

Maybe if i was into bad death metal and that kind of music i would have grow a large beard, bought a lot of black clothing and still be rolling a d6 to see if my storm bolter had hit that genestealer :p

I played dawn of war and it was quite amusing to see the little toys i played with running about and blasting the heck out of stuff.

Hello everyone. My name is Messiah Khan. I used to play Games Workshop games. Thanks to Wargames anonymous I havent been near a lead model in nearly 7 years. Its difficult to fight the urge, but I have to be strong. Hopefully my story might help someone else to quit the habbit. :p

Edit; Necromunda used to be the best. I even went to one of the massive competitions in GW HQ, representing the Darlington shop. :)

I used to play Necromunda but gave it up as i couldnt afford the models. Got back into it lately tho with Warhammer, collecting myself a nice orc and goblin army. WAAAAAAAAGH! :p

One of the top PUAs in the UK plays Warhammer and D&D. It's just a hobby, and you can be any kind of person... it's like saying that people that play tennis have a certain personality. Which is a crass generalisation.

Actually you'll see my mate mentioned in FHM tomorrow as part of their article on the school of seduction... of course it won't mention that he plays warhammer. :o

i used to, 40k, but kinda grown out of it now. Still like books i think there mint. But the modelling side isnt for me anymore :(.

Savill3

the background story and all that stuff was great for Warhammer 40k, used to love the stuff when I was younger.

Alas though, its damn expensive. £20 for a small chunk of metal, no thanks. Ah well, it was good while it lasted, and I've currently got a large drawer full of stuff that I might Ebay for a large wad of cash.

Lots of limited edition models + geeky collectable game = Win. ;)

Man'o'War, 40k, & Epic (Dwarfs & space Wolfs) were the only ones i played from memory around 10years ago. there weren't that many people to play with and it just sort of slipped aware though i loved the back ground info and cedexs.

Have a Battletech and Dungeons and Dragons tale top game at home, but not had the time or players to use them :(

spend a lot of cash on the games wish i hadden't :/

Me too :D i've just started Night Gobbos, got 90 of the BFSP ones undercoated brown :D

Yeah i got the BFSP box set, then I brought the 7th Edition launch O&G army deal set (£145 >.< ouch) but you get a load in there, like 2500 points

So its worth it

I could never buy an army box, I've bought battalions and battle forces before, but I just end up not painting them because they seem overwhelming. I'm about to sell a load and start over

Well...two of the people I know who are really into warhammer are also heavily into computer games and have pretty good social lives (and jobs).

I know, it's a shock to see a stereotype broken.
Alright, but you still can't deny that the majority of people who are into Games Workshop stuff are annoying spotty nerds who can't string two sentences together to form a conversation - unless it's about Warhammer, that is.

Perhaps the calibre of gamer gets better as they age - I knew one guy who was in his mid 20s, really into it and quite cool, but everyone I've met who's under 20 has fitted the 'annoying spotty nerd' stereotype perfectly. I should know, I used to be one.

Not at all

Because of the stereotype people are bound to think that. Most people always say Goths are suicidal people who hate everything and everyone, but I know a lot of goths and there all damn nice people. Stereotypes will always blanket the way you look at things I'm afraid. What about the stereotype about people on internet forums about pc hardware? I'm sure you'd argue against that :)

I go to Veterans night every Tuesday pretty much at my local GW and I dont go to play but for the social element as everyones a great laugh and its just real good fun.

The original "Blood Bowl" by Games Workshop was the best..

I got it when it first came out and was with the polysyrene pitch that came in two halfs. Now iirc it comes only with a cardboard pitch and a shed load more instructions. When I played it it was simple.

Blockers, Blitzers, Throwers, Catchers and Linesmen. All had their own stats and was dead simple..

Lots of fond memories of that game. Even had a league going at some point with some mates.

I used to like building the models.
But then i liked building all kinds of models when i was a boy.
I had the Tanks and some space marines on a little board that i made to look like a battle field.
Only like a foot square, it was pretty cool.
