Warhammer Online

The graphics are not poor, my Black Orc looks great. And the game still has a few hundred thousand subscribers and that's quite a successful MMO really.

I hit level 40 with one or two characters, did some big city sieges... it was fun, but had too many flaws IMO.

The end game content just wasn't there and the servers would crash when too many people got into a City defence/attack.

Made some good friends through it, that's the main thing right? :)

I certainly don't see myself going back any time soon - I try to keep up to date with newsletters and see what's going but it hasn't gripped me at all unfortunately.

I don't I've ever been as disappointed overall with a game as I was with Warhammer Online. I really wanted it to be a smash, but it's just not good enough and probably because just wasn't ready when it was released. Some classes got taken out, cities were removed cause they weren't done yet, end game was non existant and there was some really obvious class issues that should have been worked out.

But yeah I still keep track of it, I keep hoping that it'll fix all its problems and somehow become a sucessful mmo, but I keep getting let down everytime I check up. I obviously don't play it now though, but I did have fun to some extent whilst I was playing. Got 3x lvl 40's, but it just became tedious. So I basically made 1 of every class and played through until they hit lvl 22 then I'd restart as another class as Tier 1 and Tier 2 were brilliant.

Fantasic IP/idea, but made by the wrong company.

Not sure how Mythic would be classed as a 'wrong company' the only thing they did wrong was to take away depth and make it a WoW clone in my eyes. If it was a Dark Age of Camelot clone set in the Warhammer universe, then yes it would've kicked much arse. But for whatever reason they chose to dumb the game down for the 'masses' which is why it became boring and also why WoW became boring. I was expecting mass PvP like there was in DAoC with class customisations which actually changed the feel of the class completely due to spec.

However a lot of the lack of things being finished was probably due to EA putting the pressure to release. It also didn't help that the original concept for WH:O before Mythic took over, spelled a much darker very complex game, but sadly the developers never got it off the ground.

The sub numbers say otherwise. I found WoW far more interesting the WAR. WAR reminded me of how WoW was 4 years ago. It lacked all the quality of life improvements Blizzard made to their game.

The devs obvious hadn't thought through things. They were surprised by all the Keep swapping and the lack of realm pride. Since, you got loot and more renown from attacking then def, it's pretty obvious people weren't going to def.

Or Mythic weren't up to the job and promised more then could deliver, which seems much more likely. The game a year old and still not right.

And what's the WoW lore based on....

At the end of the day WAR is a good MMO, it's only just a year old remember.

it looks very nice and i like the setting as post people have pointed out. but gameplay was sooo limited.

How can you say the gameplay is limited?

Right from lvl1 - you can quests, do PQ's, do scenario's or head into RvR.

Compared to every other MMO....in which all you can pretty much do for most of the game is quests. Its the first MMO which I felt actually had some real options to it.

But, like most people here, I gave up on it about level 34. RvR just doesn't work because people only like to be on the winning side, so it'll almost always be imbalanced, be it server wide, or based on one single keep attack.

And it seems current architecture can't cope with 50v50 RvR, so it just becomes a stutter-fest of button spamming.

I'm critising, but I find it hard to see how they could actually make "good" RvR...

This is the single biggest reason it wasn't the smash it should have been in my opinion. Three sided conflicts are self balancing. If one side gains a significant advantage, the other two tend to gang up against them. In planetside and DaoC you never see more than a few % variation in populations.

Why they didn't do it with WAR is beyond me, there was plenty of scope in the lore for a three way conflict.

I was thinking of Warhammer this morning, and wnated to knowif Teir 4 RvR had improved at all? Especially on Karak Norm server for Order.

The reason I quite was Teir 4 RvR was messed up from the unbalanced population, e.g. two or more full Destruction warbands against single (if lucky) Order. And the server lag basically crippled play and made playing a healer pointless. I even wondered if a US server would have been a better option.

When I played on Karak Norm the only time Order seemed to reclaim ground before getting steam rolled back was during working hours and very early hours, so was no good for me.

Nope, order still getting steamrolled I'm afraid. Now that they've removed the fortress requirement for city sieges, I can't get into altdorf half the time now cos it's constantly under siege.

Karak Azgal is the only other real EU option, not sure what it's like there.

I really enjoyed the city sieges too but like you there was too many flaws in the implementation of the game to keep me interested, started playing a lot of lowbie alts instead before finally quitting.

T4 rvr just got boring, T1/2 was far more fun. Final straw for me was watching 3 guys blatantly cheat to get into a keep using bugs, reporting it and being told I hadn't provided enough evidence, despite sending 20 screenshots, giving times, names of players etc.

The game could have been brilliant and I'll be honest it wasn't far off, it just needed the RVR zones to be far more like Dark Age of Camelot and one huge area, rather than separate T1-4 zones that somehow influence each other "magically".

T1 was always a hell of a blast though :D

Haven't been near a MMO since I left, been a fun 9 months without them!

I installed the game and was going to make a trial account to get it patched up. Think I'll do myself a favour and stay away.

They removed the Forts, resulting in 24/7 city raids which suck. Not resubbing next month. Not a lot of point to end game play now they've done that.

It was an impressive game in many respects before that. I've not seen 100 per side battles in an mmo before. A lot of waiting about looking for fights, but good when you get even sided ones. Its not all end to end Pragg 50 a side battles, but there was enough action compared to your average pve mmo. But the latest patch seems to have destroyed that fun t4 gameplay.

I enjoy the RvR on Azgal.

It can be annoying when there's a city seige on and you can't run Scenarios, but why would you when you can go seige and get just as much, if not more Renown :)

Granted I've only got a 33 BO and 33 SH, but with the new Apprentice option, which raises your level in RvR it's not a problem and I'm loving the large scale battles.

It's really what you make of it, I mean you can either bitch and moan about it's flaws or you can focus on the good stuff :)

Got the trial to this today, after looking for an MMO with a semi decent PVE aspect ( other then wow or LOTRO), decided to go with a more pvp approach and chose WAR. It is by no means as finely polished as most MMO's out there but I must say the scenarios are great fun. Im not much of a PvP person but the PVP to me is so much fun on WAR coupled with the decent xp you gain from farming them.
It is a shame as this game really had the potential to become one of the best contenders to WOW. Really all i think it needs is a few more capital cities, more PvE content and it would be onto a winner. If you fancy a change give this a shot, its by no means perfect, hopefully it will be polished in the next year or so to become what it should have been from the start. Which is where i think most of the frustrations lie :P

Bump (can't find the main thread)

Does anyone still play this? Currently bored, so thought I might re-sub to this as I did enjoy it when I played.

Quick scoot over to the forum suggests that there are only 4 active servers, subs are down to about 75k now - and thats about to get worse over the massive payment ****-up which meant people we're getting billed multiple times so they've quit but waiting for the subs to expire.

Not looking good, it seems. Needless to say, I didn't bother.
