Exciting times for GW fans. I noticed they have been churning out lots more female model's, I've often wondered if that's in view to going more main stream and trying to fend off the equality weirdos.

The trouble is the only people I know that buy the female models tend to be the weirdos!

The more 40k goes mainstream, the more i lose interest. I just can't help but feel it doesn't really know what it wants to be, but in reality it does- a money making business. The game is already strange enough with either lack in confidence strange or smelly people, or competitive tryhards who won't admit the game isn't actually a decent competitive game. But i'm happy that it does bring people together, a British company is doing well with in house manufacturing and supporting many British jobs.

I liked the Space Marine movie, but i wasn't expected it to be amazing. But i don't think i'll have any interest in this.

I actually quit playing Warhammer and visiting my local store some years back due to this.

I'd pop in semi-regularly to check out new releases, I even played once in awhile when time allowed. The place became increasingly populated with the weird and not so wonderful, to the point where I had a literal (and unwashed) stranger come up and give me a massive, arm wrapping hug out of the blue. I politely told him to never do that again and moved on, but after chatting with the staff apparently that had become a 'thing' with a bunch of the less socially adept regulars. They went so far as to put a 'Please don't hug strangers' sign up due to complaints. Even beyond that, not having much time to play you'd make the effort of going of an evening for a game and you'd come across the most insanely pedantic people imaginable. I swear I spent some nights where I spent more time waiting on clarifications on rules over actually playing, some very overly competitive yet not so bright people who couldn't accept the game was (and I imagine still is tbh) horribly imbalanced.

hahahahahahhahah, i do like your reaction too. But honestly, not surprised. I've seen similar things and experienced awkwardness also. I got back into the game when i had a sports injury, thought it could be a good way to socialise and have a laugh that wasn't the pub or video games. I've got some good mates from it, and we are a tight group, been to a few weddings even because of it. But it took us a few years of banter to clear out the people who weren't normal in our group. I also purposely play sub optimal lists just so i don't have to deal with rule lawyering these days, but admittedly haven't played in probably 6months/year due to video games taking hold again. They're cheap, fun, and sometimes mildly social.

But, the lore and setting is god damn awesome. It's just annoying how a game somehow manages to take forever.

Yeah, the lore is what has kept me interested if I'm honest.

I wish I could still play the tabletop even, but none of my mates offline are that interested in it, so my only way to get back into it would be to brave the stores.

...Sod that for a laugh.

Sidetracking, but I'm North Tyneside and there's some decent clubs around here now, where the old stereotype doesn't always fit. This may be helped by the fact that I play AoS primarily and the average AoS player seems to be a little less difficult to deal with. The only person I play AoS against outside of the club I occasionally frequent is @No1newts and he is a bit smelly, tbh :D

That said, I still avoid the Warhammer in Newcastle at the height of summer. It can get a bit ripe in there.

Screw you pookie you min maxing scum bag :p:D

Yeah the stores are weird, I actually think they are better than back in the bad old days when the staff were overbearing lunatics who wouldn't give you space to breathe. That being said I just like to know what I want, go in, buy, then leave asap as some people in there area straight up loons.

I just play games with @Pookie Bear, then some games at home with my son and occasionally my brother in law.

That being said I'm not hugely bothered about actually playing, I enjoy the collecting and painting more. Spending an age digging into rules just tends to irritate me and I'm a big fan of the lore so when, what should be an awesome unit, gets chewed up in combat I get irked :p

As a slight aside I would love it if they would do a project to close the gaps in the lore. At face level it's pretty in depth and interesting but the more you poke into some detail there are huge gaps and lapses, some sort of history and timeline would be interesting to read.

Not gonna lie, last I played I sort of accidentally min-maxed. lol...

I've always been a massive fan of Chaos, I was running a plague marine army with a daemon prince HQ in large because I loved the way they looked painted. I won most matches just by nature of everything being tough as balls, I was compared to earlier 'Necron' players more than once. I wasn't even sure what they were complaining about at first, I had to look it up. lol

He's never beat me at AoS and my RPG characters are nails. He's just bitter :D

Do you still have a collection? I do have a 40k army - only about 1k of Ultramarines. I'm more of an AoS player.
We should try and sort out an OCUK Northern game - 2v2 :D

I still have some bits and pieces hidden away I think, I gave the bulk of my stuff away though so I'd need to start from scratch if I ever started up again! I had about 3K points worth of Chaos stuff at one point, although honestly all of my models would have been a bit dated now anyway.

If I ever started up again I'd be tempted to go AoS, I've always loved the Vampire Counts models so I'd probably focus around them.

The Vampire counts are basically Grand Alliance Death these days. Flesh-Eater Courts is probably the closest true faction to them - and they're not far off top-tier at the moment (in some cases, of course). And there's those who say they're nothing but dead Bretonnians.

I definitely prefer AoS as a game. The double-turn mechanic can be punishing, but too much shooting does my head in.

I remember walking past the Metrocenter one with a mate, and there was a guy inside dressed like a Pirate shouting at the top of his voice. Must have been role playing Man'o War. Me and my mate were too scared to venture in and went in Beatties instead.

I prefer AoS setting but the 40k rules are better in my opinion.

Despite having an AoS army I don't really have a choice though as my son massively prefers 40k so I'm being dragged that way. As it is beyond the marines which he has no real factions really have me thinking "oooh" I like them. That's unlike AoS where I like almost every army and could happily collect most. I will probably end up as 40k Orks, I like their lunacy.
