Warm hatch for <£13k

I'd steer clear of the Astra, primarily due to every one I've experienced being pretty unreliable, especially at this age.

Left field suggestion of a Leon FR, you can get these in a 1.8 guise and definitely a 'warm' hatch, I'd argue GTI, 182 and the renault sports are hot hatches, great cars but definitely not a warm hatch. With the Leon you'll get a lot of tech and reliability without the premium commanded by the likes of the VW and Audis.

Agreed, depending on age a Leon will very likely be much better specced than the the equivalent Focus or Astra. The FR had LED headlights pretty-much as standard long ago for example, while the rest were still pushing cars with halogens.

hot hot hatch : Seat Leon 2.0 Tsi 300

quite hot hatch : clio 1.6 TCe Renaultsport

warm hatch : Seat Leon 1.5 TSI EVO FR

Also Golf or Civics to look at

My Polo is somewhere in between a hot and warm hatch. Plenty of poke to give most a run for its money, still light compared to the bigger cars.

i also drive a Focus 1.8

my next car will be a 2017/2018 Mazda 3, quite a bit faster , nicer inside, probably nicer to drive too

Petrol or Diesel take your pick. Its where my 12k would be going :)

I test-drove a born Cupra obviously on the Autobahn, must admit it felt nippy but the top speed was 94MPH and 0-60 in 7.2 my diesel DSG Octavia was slightly quicker to 60 and just pulls away from the Born. Not sure how a 150BHP leaf would be fair but EVs are not the be-and end-all. A hot hatch is miles different to a Leaf, the two are not even comparable.

I think the only new EV that is close to a hot hatch is possibly the MG4 even that is no where near cheap enough. But prices for vehicles are ridiculous high. The Born Cupra is 38k. Utter madness haha!!

Hot hatches and proper sports cars are where EVs are lacking. It's all boring and lazily designed SUV stuff :/

The formula for building cars now seems to be a basic chassis and "it'll do" for the rest of it. Stick a flashy iPad on the dash and the masses lap it up. Drives like a van and the ride is horrible, but look it has android auto! (for now, until phones move on).

Kia ceed GT is a good shout, definitely more warm than hot.

That said the astra vxr is about the same cost, and is a faster and better car (though only with 3 doors)

The standard astra with 1.6 turbo (might be a 1.4 turbo available aswell ) are very like warm.

Other cars to look at in the warm category is Volvo s/V40.

I'm biased, but a DS3 Performance is quite fun to drive. Over 200BHP at just under 1200kg with a LSD. Might be a bit small for what you want though.
