Warning AMD Ryzen Users Microsoft Installing Update Automatically That Bricks Your PC

I don't think I have ever had a driver update in win updates, they've always come under the bracket of optional, and you have to actively click them, but I have an MSI MB.
They used to do that, but in the last few weeks they've been force installing them (some driver updates that were in the optional section started installing one day automatically).

I paused my updates earlier when i saw about this and actually forgot to check if it had been installed and it already has but no issues *touch wood*

I have a X570 Aorus Elite.

Well, it did really as the BIOS was reset several times while I was trying to get it back to life. The main difference is that I only have a single BIOS so it was probably easier for me to resolve.
I have a dual BIOS on my Gigabyte motherboard but I always have the switch on the motherboard set to 'Single BIOS' instead of the default 'Dual BIOS' setting. Buildzoid also recommend this until you actually need it.

I also use W10Privacy to disable auto updates as well as other bits of 'telemetry' that send info back to Microsoft.

That's a good idea since it seems too easy to trigger the backup BIOS.

Is there a way to disable automatic updates in win10 and just do manual updates like in windows 7? Im not talking about delaying updates but a full on stop to auto update.

There are various approaches, some involving 3rd party software of varying degrees of how much you can trust it.

Neil posted this link the other day https://www.windowscentral.com/how-stop-updates-installing-automatically-windows-10 I've not tried all those methods yet.

I've never found an ideal solution for 10 - but I like to have security updates fairly timely but complete control over when the system reboots and feature updates at my leisure without too much messing about - Windows 10 is completely trash in that respect and I don't think it an unreasonable expectation.

Ok it has done something as one of my games nvme's is missing.

Just rolled back the driver didn't even need to restart. Drive is back.

did the group policy setting. will see if it sticks and stops auto updates from happening.

Stop defaming Windows by calling that toyphone OS abomination as Windows.
It's plain Wintoys with that bad for PC UI and user and his/hers PC being just toy for MS.

Well at least the driver was pulled quick. Windows 10 isn't that bad as long you don't update as soon as possible, and instead wait. I think the last few updates was unlucky for Microsoft.

When it comes to windows 10 updates your best NOT checking for updates until the second Tue of the month when patch Tuesday is upon us.

If you check for updates (as I used to do daily) Microsoft uses you to beta test the updates that will be released on Patch Tuesday!

Any of you more savvy folk ever tempted to run an LTSC version of W10?

Not really, I’m not even sure how you would get a LTSC copy legitimately unless you worked for a company with the correct Enterprise licensing? I’ve been fortunate with updates and never really had a problem with them.

Why are any of you running 1909 still?

I’ve had 20H2 installed for months and months without a single problem.

But then if everyone waits?

Yeah basically their update implementation and approach is pants on head - I have no idea whether they intentionally find it amusing or can't see how poor it is or just don't care.

Until recently anything newer than 1909 was still blocked on some devices (due to various issues like incompatible audio drivers for some chipsets, etc.) - I was only able to update some of my machines to 20H2 within the last few weeks or so - what was annoying more recently sometimes they'd randomly try and update and then after messing about revert to 1909.
