[Warning Fudzilla] GeCube HD 2900XT beats 8800GTS 640MB

Hmm I'm considering a HD2900XT now after reading the Fudzilla, it's not even far behind the 8800GTX by much and it is quite a bit cheaper.

Only thing is I'm a bit scared by the power consumption.

Edit: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-061-OK

Nearly 100 quid cheaper than the 8800GTX I was going to buy and the difference from them Fudzilla tests is barely 10 FPS on most games.

Mind you if I save 100 quid I can spend some of that on a new PSU.

be wary my child....
Yep gonna have a good look around tomorrow before I make the purchase. :)

Think I will be now yeah. :p

After checking a bizillion websites about my PSU I've settled that 2x 18.0A 12v rails is fine for the job.

I dunno about that, I had a Hiper Type-R 580w, has 18A and a 20A, was worried about putting a GTX on that, so got a Corsair HX520 and a GTS instead.

Thats abit low, dont get how a GPU overclock boosts it by nearly 2000

2000?

You also have 2GB more ram along with 100mhz extra on the cpu when doing that bench and your only a mere 100 points more, Oh Noes

the VGA is at stock clocks, cpu MHZ and ram size doesnt really matter THAT much for 3dmark06. i see the score being absolutely normal

It isn't £100 cheaper, as you'll be putting that £100 saving towards your leccy bill when that 2900 starts sucking all the power, so your gona save nowt. :D

If I got a 2900XT instead of this GTS, all I can say is my parents would go insane, you would go up the walls lol.

Read all over the net that this is a quality PSU (AKASA 500W Paxpower) and should handle it fine.

But if I had a Hiper I would've done the same. :D

I wish I got an 8800GTX now and not a GTS and a PSU, people have been running HD2900XT and Hiper Type-R 580W for a few months now no problems, I've still got my Hiper.

You can't just add the rails together, if you could do that it would be a 680w psu. Its the maximum combined 12v that matters.

Ah I get you, still I should be fine with my PSU, has decent rails and two PCI-E power leads. :)

Been running my 2900 and a Hiper for 2 months, No issues. Any GOOD 500w PSU should power the 2900 just fine. For the record my Power Usage Monitor shows that my WHOLE system uses 233w Idle and around 380w In game.

Blimey, guess the power consumption on these modern graphics card isn't as big as I thought it would be.

It aint check my power consumption thread, I'll do a full test when I get out the shower and upload the pics.
Yep had a read through that interesting stuff, nice to read that after being told by other websites that 500W would be risky.

The Hiper has a fairly good 12v combined wattage, 30A/360W. I wouldn't take much notice of the overall wattage, its pretty much useless. Take a look at the specs, the Antec 500W (assume its a Paxpower?) has less 12v wattage (relatively large 3.3.v & 5V rails). Unfortunately they don't give any combined figures, assuming a typical crossload, its probably about 25A/300W@12V. Still enough for a single card + C2D.

I would think someone is pushing it running a HD2900XT and C2D system with the Hiper though.
