Warning - Some Seagate 7200.11 32MB cache drives ship with most of its cache disabled

For you mate :)

Pretty much the same score except for the much higher burst speed in hdtach.

I just set up two drives for my dad, 500GB 7200.11's, and i'm worried about this now. The boot drive is making a damn clicking noise every now and then, and cache sizes are reported as "0kb" in Diskcheckup. Everest says "unknown".

I could't find the cache stat in SANDRA though anywhere on the HD report?

Model no: ST3500320AS. Firmware version is SD15. Arghhh!

Holy batman thread revival and so on. My drive was originally bought in January and then I bought it off MMa few months back and just noticed I have the 8mb curse on it (500GB version). I updated and now I have the correct 320AS model with 32mb cache but I noticed that when I run both HD tune and HD tach I get similar benchmarks to everyone else but I when you look at the graph I get a lot of very low drops (I even had 0.1mb reading at one point), Is that anything to be worried about since the drive passes seatools (both short and long and HD tune?

Also anyone else experienced the clicking noises the drive seems to start making all of a sudden? Seems to start randomly and then just have to restart the machine until I starts working without clicking noises everytime it accesses something. Doesn't happen too often but I've had it about half a dozen times now. I'll see if it goes away with the update maybe, but overall a little disappointed with the noise of this drive even when clicking noises aren't going on. Anyone made a move to a different HD and found big difference in noise levels?
