Warranty issue with Kindle

I'm completely missing something here.

In 2011 I got myself a Kindle online from that forresty place.

At the end of the year it became faulty, so amazon sent me another. Now 9 months later this one has become faulty.

Amazon says I have 2 options, buy the keyboardless one for a discounted rate or another one at a discounted rate.

Am I missing something here? Why do I need to spend money in this situation? Shouldn't they just repair it or replace it?
 
Actually i would have thought that too. The replacement was brand new when they sent it to you, so should have been covered by it's own manufacturers 12 month warranty... ?
 
Then you get endless 12 month warranties if anything goes wrong.
Most replacements will state they carry the remainder of the original warranty,
 
I am sure that they only had to honour the warranty on the original item. Like on a hard drive, if its got 3 year warranty and its replaced after 2yrs 11months with a new drive then the warranty is only valid till the original drive runs out (Ok some manufactures give at least 90 days extra) but the warranty doesnt start again on the new item..
 
Yeah, you're out of warranty.

TBH - them offering you a discount on a new one is pretty good CS :-)
 
The "discount" was an insult, I'd have rather they added on the "discount" to the orginal purchase price :p

So essentially, your product can be uttely crap and you can only ever be responsible for it lasting upto a year for a consumer..

Depends what you consider an insult. To me, any discount for replacing something that is out of warranty is already more than they have to offer me.

Very true. I've only had to deal with Amazons CS a couple of times but they've been very easy and helpful to deal with each time.

This, same thing with Apple, if they replace your phone then it continues your existing warranty or if less than 90 days is left then you get 90 days.
 
Personally warranty or not I wouldn't be happy with them producing something that can't even make it 12months on 2 occasions.
 
Amazon is great what I don't understand is how they can give me free shipping but if I don't want an item it costs $$$$$ to send it back to them.... :(

Not that I expect them to pay for it but it seems like any discounts given by postal services to online e-tailors have been passed on to people trying to send stuff privately.
 
What was the fault with the Kindle, if it was the screen breaking then use SOGA as this is an inherent fault in all the old keyboard ones (I went through 4 with this issue) to make them sort it.
