Right, random question on warranty, hence not a clue where to post it :p Just got a new laptop from Sony, comes with all the standard warranty etc, just wondering if changing/upgrading the OS will affect this in any way if something happens to the laptop, such are hardware faults etc etc? Thanks..

They won't support if from a software standpoint, but hardware wise they cannot refuse, so long as it is faulty hardware and not just driver/software issues.

Twas what I suspected, just dont want them turning round and saying they wont fix/replace faulty hardware due to me running a different OS than what was pre-installed.

I wouldn't be suprised if it is a hardware fault that isnt picked up by Boot etc they may have some bespoke software apps that will only run in windows they may ask you to run, and until they have the results of that wont offer to fix it, so you may need to reinstall windows!

I would expect them to refuse support until you returned the laptop to the operating system to that which was supplied.

I've known the big companies to refuse tech support when they have found out an extra stick of RAM has been added.

Was just about to say this.
If your Sony develops a serious fault, not switching on etc then obviously you can invoke your warranty no matter what OS.
If however it's what looks like a memory fault or something along those lines they will insist that you use the Recovery Media to return the laptop to the OS it was running when it arrived.
It's annoying to say the least but just be prepared in the future if something was to go wrong.
