I'm so buying one of these in the not distant future. Damn you fox for making me realize it's actually perfectly feasible to own one at university =/

All depending on the cost of insurance  :D

Haha true, but it'd be worth it. My only concern is on my dead end street, cars parked on either side, people reversing up and down it all day without a care. With just my clapped out Clio parked there, not fussed. With that, I'd be eye-balling the window every 5 mins!

Looks like an AUTO. I wouldnt be buying myself an auto but i would take one in black with a nicer interior and a 6spd manual.

Yup, it's an auto - the vast majority are it seems.

says steptronic. Thought that still allowed you to push up and pull down through the gears?

Yup, but doesn't have a clutch. It will have a fully-auto mode and a flick through the gears mode.

IIRC Only 540i and M5 are available in 6 speed manual.

The automatic box in these is very very good. Personally would be my choice over the manual, the benefits far outweigh the fact that you might be able to thrash 0.1 seconds of your back road time in the manual.

I have a manual 99 528i and I didn't realise they were rare.

I'd have preferred an Auto though, car is too much of a relaxed and comfortable drive for a manual.

The problem with BMWs is that every time they bring out a new 'series', the old ones suddenly look very dated.

Odd also how the 'council house / back to back terrace brigade' seem to have a love for old 'bling bling' black BMWs.
