Was I at fault?

Im going to open myself up here but I had a little bit of an incident today and im not too sure if I was in the wrong. I popped into town and parked as per the photo below, there are double yellows (I know) and I was parked where there is an outlined box (by outlined I mean the way the stones are laid) and then there is a passing place for pedestrians. People always park here so I have always done the same when I can.

However, today the silver corsa came out of the car parking area and drove into the drivers side rear of my van, scratching it a little but causing serious damage to her own car. Accidents happen etc, but first thing she mentioned it was because I was parked illegally..

Now if I was, am I liable for the damage to both vehicles? Just want to know where I stand with it all?

You can't just drive into stationary objects just because they shouldnt be there. You didn't help yourself, but it's still her fault.
 
Regardless of how you were parked, surely that doesn't excuse other people from driving into you because they weren't paying attention? What if it was an emergency vehicle instead of your van, there's no excuse for driving into clearly visible stationary objects.
 
Not necessarily it may go against you to a point but it doesn't mean she can just go around driving into things.
 
Ok, thanks all, lesson learnt on this one! Funny thing is, its the 3rd time I have been crashed into in less than a month!
 
If you had stopped there because you had broken down would that make a difference? I think the Corsa driver is to blame, hitting a stationary object! Ridiculous argument on her part.

As there's no stripe/chevron on the curb then you could argue you were stop there legally to load/unload (assuming no signed to contradict this). Obviously, if you were away from the van, then this is debatable...

Whether there legally or not, it's surely the moving vehicle's fault... Would they blame a wall or railing for being there, nope... it's just a typical thing of someone not wanting to admit they screwed up...
 
I was stopped on double yellow lines doing a delivery (the only access point for the company I was delivering to) in my truck a while back, cretin in Corsa (coincidence?) drove into the rear of my trailer.

The guy driving insisted it was my fault he’d hit me because I was parked illegally, long story short he called the police who were more interested in his lack of tax and weren’t concerned at all in my parking although I did have a justification for being there.

Ultimately, it could have been a building just beyond the yellow lines where the OP was parked instead of him would said building be at fault had the Corsa driver hit it?
 
Someone cut across me on a roundabout (first crash) and hit my works van, second crash, someones hand brake "came off" and rolled in to my van and then the third is this one.. so not all my fault really
 
Nope, not at fault, regardless of if you are allowed to park there or not, if you were parked up the duty of care is on the moving car not to hit you.

No, it's not your fault.
I wouldn't believe it was anyway, but especially when a silver Corsa is involved - Every vehicular incident I have ever suffered has been at the hands of a silver flippin' Corsa!! :D

As above, not your fault so won't go against you but exactly why non fault accidents increase premiums in a lot of cases.
 
Your van need to be white - clearly your fault :rolleyes:

In all seriousness: how can you be to blame when you're parked ? What would her visibility have been like pulling out as she's obviously turned too tight or been too far over. I did the same many years ago with a gatepost as a new driver and that was very definitely the numpty I see in the mirror to blame.
