was i in the right?

on this picture i would have been behind the red car

But you came from where?
that cycle lane part is a pain in the ass there, looks like it could cause many people to just take advantage when people are not stopping on it to turn left.

oh right, erm, just further down this road theres a roundabout. i came from there. basically straight back from the red car.

It's a badly designed junction for sure, but you shouldn't have arched out (whatever that means) to show what you wanted to do, just indicate and be patient.

In that situation, with the left filter, I'd use the cycle lane too, and probably get agitated if someone nudged out to try and block my route.

No left turn? Take the right lane and go round the roundabout until you get back to the exit you want!

I would have just pulled onto the cycle lane, it's not a solid white line;

"You MUST NOT drive or park in a cycle lane marked by a solid white line during its times of operation. Do not drive or park in a cycle lane marked by a broken white line unless it is unavoidable."

It's not unavoiadble, you're wanting to turn left, not go straight ahead, so the only option is to pull into the left and go over the cycle lane, and wait behind whoever is at the front at the lights.

You still haven't explained what "arched out" means. Because from the context, it sounds like you saw the bicycle coming, and then deliberately moved to block him. Why would you do that?

What bicycle?

He was queueing in his car, in the straight ahead lane, indicating left as there was no room in the left lane to wait in without blocking the cycle lane.

Another car, drove down the side of the queueing traffic to place himself in the non existent space to turn left that the OP had decided to leave open for cyclists.

As this car was approaching, the OP nudged out to the left in an effort to signify his left turning intentions to the car driving down the left of everyone (and from the looks of the space available, possibly even on the pavement).

Hmm, the OP said "some guy", and since it was a cycle lane, I assume he meant it was a bike. How do you fit a car in a cycle lane, was it like the world's narrowest car?

Well if you look at the streetview image I posted, there is enough room to put a second car in the 'turn left queue' as it were, assuming you are happy to stop in the cycle lane.

The OP didn't do this and nudged himself out when someone else drove past all the other traffic to put themselves there.

you were in the wrong, you should've just pulled over the cycle lane - then when you saw him coming you made a move to pull in front of him - and then wonder why he was mad?

Sounds as though you should have positioned yourself further away from the lights so as to make it plainly obvious you are waiting to turn left.

I didnt just pull out in front of him. He was still a few cars behind. I just positioned my car over abit. (arched over) technically i think he still could have undertook me as i didnt go in the cycle lane.

He might have thought you were doing it intentionally to try to scare him or something, which is why he reacted.
