1) I see multiplayer game called 'Strictly noobs only'
2) I join, thinking 'I've only just bought 'Demigod' and played 2 single player skirmishes - I'm a noob'. We start playing
3) We start getting slaughtered left right and centre.
4) The opposition global say 'OMFG Britboy you are so lame... what a nooooooooob .. lolol' as they use their pre-purchased items against me etc.
5) My TEAM MATES say 'OMG kick him - Jees - back to lobby ban Britboy?'.
6) I get booted.
7) I look at the stats of the opposition. One guy has 97 wins, 2 losses. And he's taking the mickey out of a noob in a game called 'Strictly noobs only'. Even the guys on my team had 45 wins, 12 losses.

So .. who was in the wrong?

A) Britters was in the wrong. There's noob and noob. Should have played for much longer SP before embarrassing yourself MP and wasting everyone's time.
B) The rest of the world. A (unranked) game called 'Strictly noobs only' should not complain about the quality of team members/competitors no matter how bad ... - especially cheeky when they are obviously not complete noobs but maybe enjoying the ambush ...

??

They were obviously in the wrong and not very good sports, instead of trying to help you learn the game they taunted you.

This is unfortunately one of the reasons I gave up playing this game online because I found the online game far to intimidating. It's a shame really as I do quite like the single player even if it does get a bit tedious after a while.

Well it's clearly a bunch of elitist nerds playing well below their level to massage their egos, they obviously can't handle losing so took it out on you.

Only played Supreme Commander online, and while I didn't win much more than I lost the players didn't make "omfg n00b" type comments. Not sure if Demigod attracts juvenile idiots or something...

I tend to aviod any server with noobs in the title as it tends to attract the sort of players you encounterd. You tend to get better skilled players stacking the teams for easy wins and kills.

I'd have said you were right to think that it was a server full of people new to the game. The fact that the server was called 'noobs something' to atract new players in, only to find it full of experienced players who only want to take the p, is a bit sad.

Just to add, I hate how various communities display a distinct lack of understanding for new players. It's not limited to new players either, even if you're an experienced player but yet make a simple mistake or something you can be heavily slated.

Most of the time though these 'elite' players just take themselves and the game far too seriously.

'tis only a game!

RTS team based games are all like this unfortunately. It's not like the guy with 1 kill 16 deaths gets abused in counter strike source, but the guy who is too slow building his units and loses a few battles get's annihilated almost bullied in the rts world.

You were in the right, just take the abuse until you get to a reasonable level.

Sounds like some idiots who can't compete against their own 'peers' and so bottomfeed to get the wins that their bruised personalities need so, so much.
People like that are pathetic.
You weren't in the wrong, Britboy, it's people like this that ruin the online gaming community for lots of new players.

Yeah I played COH online once and I think that put me off RTS games online for life.

Ah, the good ol' Demigod newb stomp.

happens a fair bit.. you need to check out their stats when joining a "newb" game I'm afraid :/

Some of the best players I have seen on cs:s for example are the rudest and most arrogant. The ones that are at least civil I tend to automatically have more respect for.

i find that kind of thing happens on these forums too.... but with spelling/grammer rather than online gaming skill :p

Happens all the time on Company of Heroes. I would be out of the game for a while, so would join a game of similar title or something like low-med skilled players only.

And then proceed to get my rear handed to me by players who were obviously none of the above.

When I called one host on this he exclaimed "oh, so you really are a noob?"

oh dear.

Nobody gets banned for an inability to spell, but you should treat online interactions like you would any other. Would you laugh and call someone a noob for tripping in the street? No. Would you dribble when you talk, and spit your words in someone's face? No.

Used to get those sort of games on C&C Generals, any game titled "Noobs Only" was so someone can get eay wins and boost their stats.

Usual MP thing, servers tagged as noob only or whatever, but in actual fact full of elitist idiots looking for targets way below his/her skill lvl.
