Was it a bit much?

Ill open the door if its not a tv license or council people. But i didn't let him look inside. The guy was definitely over the top and would not accept a no, if an old woman answered he would probably intimidate money out of them. Not much i can do now, i live in a block of houses and usually some one about, so hopefully won't get any trouble.

Rather harsh (having a job is no guarantee of character) but I'd be suspicious.

We often get youths selling dishcloths, brushes etc round our way but they are always polite even if sometimes you get the sales spiel and never ever have they asked for donations if you don't want anything. That alone would make me think 'Hmm'. No legitimate sales company would encourage that.

Check for funny chalk marks on your gate post :D
And yeh, you were a bit harsh, the guy was doing what he can to earn money.

How do these guys get girlfriends anyway? Not really a catch.

Next time they knock just poke a shotgun barrel through the letterbox and then ask what they want.

Or perhaps open the door, holding the shotgun, and politely give them the directions to the nearest jobcenter.

chances are someone will have been ruder than you and or had more expensive looking items on show and will be the target (if there were checking out houses).

Don't throw the towel in just yet and go all out on cctv :P

I had a gypsie looking guy knock on my door with his girl friend. He was selling kitchen towels and sponges and other things. I said i don't need any of those at the minute. So then he asked for a donation. So i there is no chance i am giving you any money. But he was realy pushy, trying to look in side my house a bit and the girl friend kept telling him to stop going on. So as i closed the door in his face, he said, There is a word for people like you. So I said, yea employed.

But afterwards i thought it was a bit harsh. What do you think?

It's harsh, but that last line is absolutely amazing :D

I cant stand these people. Normally they are rough looking sorts who claim to be doing it as they are ex-criminals or something and have to do it as part of a police scheme ( at least that is what the last one told my mum). She said she felt threatened that if she didnt buy something they would do something to her car or house and that they were very pushy. She ended up buying some stupidely over priced cloths.

Abosluetely awful practice and if it is a police scheme then this country is run by even more moronic do-gooding ******* than i first thought.

:)

I have some Gypo's round yesterday wanting to repair my eaves on my house. he said 'I am in the area reparing one of your neighbours houses' etc. I believe Appelby Horse fair is on which is only 25 mile away.

Had gypo's camping on (and ruining) the green around a kids play park near where I live. I typed all of their number-plates into my phone, gave the list of plates to the police and told them where they were.

The police were up there that same evening and all they did was nail a notice on a tree.

******* hopeless.
