WASD / Arrow Keys

WASD. There are so many more buttons easily accessible around WASD for jump, crouch, use etc. I can't see the advantage in using arrows.

When I first started playing pc fps games all the time I liked TFGH for movement. Same shape as WASD, but gave me an extra thumb button (ALT GR) and an extra pinky button.

I use WASD all the time now though as I can't be bothered messing around with the key binds whenever I play a new game.

I've used TFGH for over 10 years now, it's basically the same as WASD except that it's more central so you can access more keys.

Obviously nowadays with voicecomms being a lot more common, you don't need so many keys for teambinds so I can see why people can get by using WASD. But to me it's just inherently worse than a more centralised setup like TFGH or YGHJ

Like you, sometimes with SP games I'm a bit lazy and just use default bindings (WASD)

I used the arrow keys for years but got tired of the extra desk space I needed when I shunted my kb over to the left. I trained up in wasd about 6 years ago and havn't looked back since.

I used to use arrow keys when I was a n00b but then I played WoW and found the joy of WASD and never looked back.

Got to say I have always played fps on a keyboard and the arrows but since getting a laptop WASD has opened a new world to me, no more stretching for keys.... there just next door now :D

WASD.

Back in the days of doom 1 I used the arrow keys though.

I knew a counter strike player who uses the Right Mouse button to move forward though, which is somewhat odd to me - but I suppose if he found it comfortable!

WASD ever since Tribes, it was the default setup and I said to my mate "urm, wtf thats retarded"

lols.

:D

Just checked that game came out in 1998 :eek:

I remember playing it online, it was so cool, one of the first few games that listed servers and you could actually play on 56k.

Back in the doom/duke3d days it was arrow keys-space-ctrl-shift-alt.

I didnt think Duke supported Y-Axis mouse movement :confused:

Used to use the arrow keys back in the day.

Converted to ASDX when I started playing Quake 3 and UT. As I rarely go backwards I prefer my main fingers on the same row.:D

S = Forward
X = Back

i started out with the arrow keys thanks to UT:GOTY, but eventually converted to WASD when i played an FPS that glitched up considerably when changing the controlls to the arrow keys (like firing in secondary fire while moving left)

i don't think i have used the arrow keys for games since windows 3.1 =/

WASD all the way :)

just cos i got all the buttons i need close

Q and E Space and what not

...x left
c right
space fire
lmb forward
rmb backward
ctrl crouch
a use
mb3 reload
mb4 jump

Never used anything else!

There are some seriously retarded configurations here by some people....I can't even imagine.

WSAD since the days of Quakeworld with +mlook

Those were the days....on a 28.8k modem and pings of around 180.

I mean, whatever happend to the concept of LPB and HPW? Thats history right there tbh.

I use
Arrows for movement
right shift= crouch
enter = use
mouse wheel up = jump
numpad1 = fire mode etc
ins = drop weapon or sprint
delete = lean
page down = prone
and so on i find it far superior to the clumsy wasd

...Why is it retarded?

Just because its different to yours there's no need for the name calling!

Anyway I'm lefthanded :D :D
