I need to buy a new washing machine. I'm looking at sites now, but if anyone wants to chip in with useful advice, please do. E.g. useful features, good brands.

I don't want to go ultra expensive particularly, but would pay to get a good solid, reliable and well designed machine. So budget anywhere from £350 to £900ish if worth it.

I like user friendly machines that just do the job with minimum fuss. Not that worried about clever gizmos unless they're really worth it.

Thanks for any comments.

Miele are usually considered to be the best but the cheapest will probably be at the top end of your budget.

Bosch always get good reviews also.

I have always used a Hoptpoint machine and have found them to be very reliable and user friendly but I am sure someone with a different experience will contradict me and tell me they are useless. I sell a lot of them at work and the feedback has always been pretty good.

Oh and on these forums it is frowned upon to make any decision on appliances (especially washing machines) until dimple has come in ranting about how they dont make em like they used to and he has tested every appliance ever so knows what he is talking about, which to be fair he does but it still makes me chuckle ;).

Ive just got a new Samsung Washing Machine, cant remember the model exacly but will have a look tonite, its the super eco bubble one, really efficient with a 15 minute quick wash, and It works perfect if you need something washed super quick, the eco bubble works really well on work wear etc. cant say anything bad about it! Looks smart too with a LCD display, it will fit
In your budget too :). Sorry for spelling etc as im on my iphone:D

I have a Bosch Logixx 7KG drum job and love it. Simple, no fancy gadgets and does the job perfectly.

Get one with a fast spin. I went from a 1000rpm to a 1600rpm - most lightweight clothes come out almost dry to the touch and spend a a few hours on an airer, I never need the tumble dryer anymore.

I rent my washing machine for £10 a month and have done for years. This is the best thing I ever did, as when they go wrong (which they always do), they come out and replace it with a brand new one.

I was fed up with them going wrong just out of warranty and costing me a fortune to get repaired.

I have 3 women in my house so pretty much the machine is on all the time :(

+1 for Bosch and Hotpoint. I've aslo had a good Samsung in the past that was just so easy to use.
Personally I would go for a bigg-ish drum and a good fast spin to dry feature - no need to use tumble dryer if it's good enough especially with cotton shirts that can be aired.
For £900 I'd expect it to iron them for me tbh.

Do not compare Bosch to Hotpoint, not in the same league.

I've had the Samsung WF0804W8E 'Eco Bubble'. Admittedly I'm a total sucker for gadgets, gizmo's and looks. It is incredibly easy to use with loads of useful functions. Does a good job and I have no complaints. The 1400 spin brings things out almost dry. The delay start function is useful to as is the 15/20/25/30min quick wash which is what I do my work shirts on normally. It's also very very quiet. Came with a 5 year warranty when I bought it too.

If I had the money I'd be telling myself to buy a Miele.

I'm quite impressed with how clothes come out of mine. Most stuff hardly needs ironing, if at all, after it's been hanging on the airer.

I asked this question a few years ago & it's either a Bosch (cheaper option) or a Miele.
I bought a Bosch Classic 6 1200 express & it has been Perfect & I am as ruff as a badgers ****. :D

I researched this a year ago and bought a Bosch. Was above average cost but has been perfect and feels very solid.
Once had to call man out that came next day, no fuss and found something blocking filter so our fault. Still no charge though.
Worth a look.

indesit are good

When we got ours we wanted one with a fast quick wash cycle and a digital display.

We went with an indesit, nothing wrong with it (so far!).
