Washing Machine literally blew up last night!

We had a component explode in a dish washer once. It literally sounded like a shot from inside the dish washer, and when we opened the door smoke came pouring out. Upon looking inside, there was a pound coin sized hole in the door skin, and a path of destruction through one of the rows of plates. It was odd, it was almost like a shaped charge had gone off in the door.

Similar thing. We have a Bosch Dishwasher that we got cheap off ebay. After about a week of using it it made a very loud pop, kind of like a cheap firework. The power module (bit where the main power from the wall goes into the first electrical point inside the machine) had burnt out/failed. I replaced it for about a tenner thinking why the heck did I cheap out and buy one off ebay, and that it probably had done more damage inside and would not go on working. It was fine though. The machine is still running fine 3 years on been as good as gold. My old man later found out a few months ago that that Dishwasher had a recall for the exact fault! Doh.

Someone else on these forums had a house fire when an electrical item went bad. It really is such a big concern of mine. It happened to our neighbours (posted about it on here before) where their tumble dryer caught fire and set the entire front of their house on fire and hence some of ours. I luckily smelt it before going up to bed and investigated, found it and hence woke them up asap by nearly banging their door down. Had to get the kids out on the street asap. Fires scare me as they are the silent killer you can rarely prevent.

Woah!! Same model in my apartment!! At least that's answered something I've always wondered - the dial on the right really is supposed to pop out so you can actually turn it! :) Will have to hit mine harder till it behaves and pops out.

Awesome destruction.
