Wasp nest

Yeah i got two of the beggars today!

Anyone else noticed that this year there seem to be mini wasps? Not sure if they are a different species or if the weather has affected their growth. They seem about half size. Tried google but with the rugby team, the White Anglo Saxon Protestant acroynm and hundreds of species all around the world I got bored before I found what I was looking for.

I'm loving the Scoobynet story and wondering what the relevance of it being 96 RON petrol is? We need a study into whether 98/99 RON is more efficient :D

Could be big this time of year and they will be grumpy as well. This one was in my loft and grew to about 3foot wide by 6foot long. Left it until the winter then removed it when they had all died off except for the queen.

They were not aggressive but if I had poked around the nest there were enough to be life threatening.

did you torture the queen wasp with fire?

LOL, burn the house down.

We had 3 holes nearby each other in a stone wall that makes one side of the house, each with wasps entering and exiting, one a lot more busy than the rest. If you stood inside on the other side of the wall you could hear a faint buzzing.

We tried 2 brands of foam wasp nest destroyer, no good. 2.5 bottles of 2 brands of fly spray at once, no good.

Then one evening (probably should have waited another hour or so) emptied half a bottle of and powder into the main hole. The next 5 minutes was spent running from angry wasps which were covered in white powder, and would drop from the sky and crash after a little while. Then it got to an endless line of wasps coming out the main hole and falling directly to the ground.

Once they had stopped lining up to fall to the ground we opened up the eves directly above the hole, rotten wood anyway, and found 3 seperate wasps nests.

Jesus H wasp Christ.... post#46

I must have a nest in my loft - A few days ago i went to get a drink in the wee small hours of the morning. i had left my kitchen light on and expected to see a moth or 2 headbutting the window tryign to get in....

....no i had about 100 wasps crawling all over the glass. I poured a pint of tap water and walked out of the kitchen bacwards very slowely turning off the light as i went past.

No i didnt dream it and no i wasnt under the influence of anything. I havent given it a 2nd thought until i read this thread... i should probably have a look for their gaff.

Get the council in mate. We had one in our attic and my dads suggestion to go up there with a stick and poke it, caused me to ring the council immediately :p

We never had a problem with wasps until last year when suddenly we had 2 nests. One in the front of the house right by my window, and the other in the back shed in the garden.

My dad in his wisdom tied two long sticks together and stood in the front of the house, wacking the entrance to the nest making them go nuts. The end result was a sting right on the back of the head and him running around the house like an idiot.

We caught the one in the shed quite early as it was only a small cone-shape stuck to the roof. A simple can of wasp killer stuff did the job.

We hired an exterminator for the one by my window. It was funny watching him leg it after he did the business. The wasps went crazy for about 30 minutes until the end.

My old house had a Hornets nest under it.

Ever tried to kill an angry hornet with a news paper? It's like trying to stop a raging bull with a tooth pick.

Suprisingly, and i know this will come as a shock, but you can actually buy something called 'Wasp Nest Destroyer'. Works quite effectively if you can get to the entrance of the nest.

Had two in the back hedge this year to get rid of, about the size of rugby balls. Then about 3 weeks later found another one in the bottom of the Pampas Grass around the pond, couldn't get to the bottom of that one, so cut the top off the grass with mucho buzzing going on, then 2 litres of white spirit and a match sorted it.

just get a hose pipe n do it rambo style, dont be soft, my mate just wore loads of clothes n went to his garage with a tennis racket n killed his nest he had lol
