Watch for running.

Have to say, I know the OP isn't looking towards the Fenix range, but I started with a 235 I think but moved to the Fenix just over a year ago and it's another level.

I don't use many of the sport features, mainly only walking/running.... and believe it or not, occasionally surfing (it has a surf mode). I use it with a HRM for when I do running which just gives me probably far too much detail, but the HRM is important to what I am doing. Anyway, where it shines is the maps and battery life. This is where I am with the dedicated "sports" watches over the "smart" apple/samsung watches. I need something that works all the time in any weather and will take an absolute beating and that is why I went for a dedicated sports watch (Fenix). The maps/navigation functions are quality, used it many times now just finding my way about random areas with just the watch. Handy having music as well, think it can have a couple 1000 tracks I'm sure.

I have a mate who is giving me a fenix 3. Slightly older, but free. Hopefully that will do the trick

Another vote for Garmins, I’m a huge Apple fanboy but apple watches are by far inferior as a Fittnes watch when compared to Garmin.

Apple watches are a better notification/smart watch but even then the better life annoys the hell out of me. My Apple Watch 4 battery lasted less than 10 hours just doing life stuff.

It was so bad I thought it must be faulty, Apple did their diagnostic and said nope everything is normal. :(

Nice! I've had a Fenix 3 HR since they were 'new' and it's great.

Compared to the 5 onwards it does lack Music and Garmin Pay but I think that's largely it in terms of features so still a decent option. If/when mine dies I'll be replacing it with whatever the current Fenix is, it just keeps on going though so I can't justify the cost, yet :p

Haha that is an issue with Garmin. I had the original Vivoactive for years because it just wouldn’t die!

Yeah picking it up on Saturday. So will give it a blast. Got a 10k race at the start of September. My first one.

Started running in lock down and really enjoy it.

You've done well there. I actually know a few pretty serious fell runners who still use the Fenix 3 because of how good it still is!

And here's me looking at rumours about the Fenix 7 when i have the 6x Pro because i'm an idiot!

I forgot to mention previously, although it's still heavily weighted in the pros area for myself still, I'll keep using the Fenix 6 until it dies I think, there was an issue with bluetooth connectivity with the Jaybird Vista earbuds, it is a common issue apparently.

Basically reading with what other people had to do was backdate the bluetooth software on the watch itself to a certain version and then turn off automatic updates.

TBH, this is a pretty large negative still and it still frustrates me as I can't update the watch and earbuds without fear of them just losing connection every 2mins in a run. I am still not aware there is a proper fix for this, it seems like loads of people complained on the Garmin/Jaybird forums but whether they fixed this yet I don't know.

The reason is I don't mind as it works fine now and has for about a year. Not sure if anyone else is aware of this?

Still running a Fenix 5 Plus.

Although it cant last a entire Ironman man, or that might have been me forgetting the bike computer and having to switch on the power meter for 6hrs :)

Might me tempted for 7 series but may weight for a 7plus, but its all about the battery for me.

My 6X Pro can do around 60 hours including HR reasons and gps etc.

I assume the Solar is even better.

Although, i wonder what else things i have turned on. When it is fully charged i see 10 days battery life (has been from purchase), yet the above link suggests up to 21 days even with full HR monitoring.

I've been looking at the Fenix for months and still not pulled the trigger.

Can anyone comment on the size? Does it feel large on the wrist?

It's never going to be a day to day but I remember it looking rather big in the shop.

I suppose it depends which one you go for, i have the X which is the biggest and yes, it's certainly big on the wrist. That doesn't really bother me though and the benefits (extra screen size/battery), certainly outweigh the cons.

I went from the Forerunner 935 to Fenix 6.

To be honest it doesn't bother me at all. Yes it's noticeably heavier, but when do you really notice? The larger screen size is a big plus too, and general quality, especially if you get the quartz glass model. I've had mine for well over a year and it doesn't have a single mark on it.

Oh and the big plus for Garmins compared to Apple watches......the battery life! With no GPS tracking, I can easily get two weeks out of my Fenix.
