Watercooling

I think the leak worry is overstated to be honest, but there always remains that possibility. It would be down to a botched installation in most cases though, as the components themselves rarely leak if tested and installed correctly.

Watercooling might not reduce your idle temps, but I'd be surprised if it didn't reduce your load temps.

Idle temps are nothing compared to your load temp. Your computer isn't crashing at idle is it, and nor is it likely to. Most heat related problems occur at loaded temps, for obvious reasons.

I might have missed it, but what case have you got, and what fans have you got ventilating it?

It could be your idle temps have something to do with case airflow, or lack of it. Does the idle temp go down significantly if you remove the side panel?

I have a Super Flower case which is the same as this internally:

I have several fans:

2 80mm at front blowing in over hdd's
1 80mm on the side panel blowing outwards
1 80 exhaust fan on back panel

It's not sat on the floor either. It's now up on a cabinet with plenty of airespace around.

Well, that case won't be helping your temps really.

If you imagine the path the air is taking in your case. Over the HD's, being warmed, rising to your CPU/AC7, being blown through that, and trying to escape through the small 80mm fan.

2 x 80mm intake fans, and 1 x 80mm rear exhaust fan is not really a lot to be honest, and with them blowing over your HD's first, warming the air up, then that same warm air going through your AC7, well, it's not doing your CPU temp any favours...

You could try turning the 80mm side fan the other way, so it's blowing in, and if you're into case modding in any way shape or form, a hole cut into the top (blowhole) would probably help shift some hot air out helping the temps in the area where your CPU and AC7 are.

Try taking the side panel off, and monitor the temps to see what happens. I suspect they'll drop quite a bit, which would suggest the case ventilation as being the issue.

Good excuse for a new case I reckon!! :) ;)

I ahve been looking at cases for ages but can;t really find any I like. I would like the following features in a case:

Good Quality
Aluminium
Removable Motherboard Tray - (if possible)
PSU at bottom
HDD racks turned so HDD's are accross the case - (easier to insert them!)
120mm Blow hole fan at top
Good Airflow
Easy cable management
NO DOOR!

If you can find some cases which have most of those features then I would be extremely appreciative.

I do like the Lian Li PC V1000 but I don't like the inverted motherboard and the fact that airflow would be bad in the top section.

Also my cpu temps drop to 43-44 with side panel off! I'm amazed. It really is the airflow!

Thanks

Neil

That's some list! I'll let you know if I come across such a case, but it might be a long time!! ;)

I really want a Silverstone TJ07, I think it's just a great looking case, and has a lot of the features you're looking for, apart from the blowhole vent, and I'm not sure about the hard disk orientation.

I might treat myself to one at the end of summer!

I thought it might be your case giving you temp grief, but at least you know what the problem is now. :)

Hi mate... do you have some pics of your watercooling setup on your P182 case?

Thanks

I'll be purchasing a new case shortly I expect. Also, A quick question. You know the cold cathode tubes?

I boght a new set of 2 today. 30cm blue ones. Each one has a bit of red at either end when turned on and they sort of shimmer slightly. Like the effet you see on water when the sun is shining on it?

Thanks

Neil

That sounds normal to me, I've got a bit of a red glow at each end of my UV cathodes.

Should be fine and they'll settle down in a few days I'm sure.

Ok new to this. !!

the machine that runs to and from the pipes freezers water and sends it around the pipes and as the pipes are so sold with this freezing water it cools your PC ??

good anuff guess ?

Not quite!

The water isn't actually frozen!

It works similar to a car radiator system. The cool water is pumped to the hot components via the tubing to a 'block' which fits tightly against the CPU etc, and then back through the tubing to a radiator which has air blowing across it, which cools it, and then back to the block etc etc.

:)

I have been having a more thorough look at the TJ-09 and it looks great but I'm a bit worried abou the aireflow. There is no aireflow coming in from the front of the case? Also, I have bene told that the back fan blows air into the case and the top blowholes blow push the air out. Does this mean I would have to rotate my freezer 7 so the air is blown towards the front of the case and then pulled out by the blow hole fans?

Could a mount a Thermochill 120.2 rad at the top in the two 120mm fan clips? If so, How would it be done?

That case has side vents doesn't it? So, they pull air in as if it was being drawn from the front, just bypassing the HD's.

You'd have to experiment with the best way to face your AC7.

Re mounting the rad, you'd have to have a look see when your case turned up, but usually it's using long thin bolts through the top of the case and into the holes on the rad.

You usually get the bolts with the radiators or several places sell them.

I have found an excellent case which i may purchase as it has heaps of space for my first try at water cooling and it is ready out of the box for thermochill 120.3 rads.

The Mountain Mods U2-UFO!

It looks awesome!

Would love to get it in Powdercoat black and build a watercooling setup in there with blue led fans!

below is a list of parts which I have put together. please fell free to comment on my list by reccomending other items or things I may have forgotten.
