Watered down alcohol

Contact the National Weights and Measures office (Or NMO as its now known) if your truly concerned.

Otherwise i'd put it down to it being such a slow seller that natural light has simply bleached the colouring out of the bottle.
Strength could be down to leaving the lid off long enough for the alcohol to evaporate out.

I doubt any high street pub/bar would risk watering down there drinks. Certainly not the likes of the chain pubs.

I'm 99% sure that wetherspoons water down their strongbow. It definitely tastes watered down, I'm always moaning about it to mates.

I work at a Wetherspoons at weekends and I can definitely say that nearly every single drink served has like one or two days left on use-by date. It's why Wetherspoons often has the cheapest prices in the area. For example, Fosters' are 2.20, it's 2.70 or 2.80 everywhere else. On Mondays, some drinks go as low as 1.40 a pint. Guess which day of the week we sell expired drinks on.

If its cheap and taste ok if im low on money i'll drink it :D

But yer im sure i have been to places that have watered down there spirits, you never know what they have been doing behind closed doors! In a 4* hotel i worked at over the christmas period red wine left over from tables was all poured into the same bottle and served the next day and so forth however long it took to sell, and the white wine bottled and served in a similar fashion(even tho im sure white wine would go vinegary after it had warmed up , and not to mention what people might have done to the half empty bottles at their table). I was quite shocked to be honest not what i expected from such an expensive hotel, and if anyone knows tunbridge wells its The Spa Hotel just off Mt. Ephraim :D

and deffo watering down is illegal!!

Slightly off topic but this reminds me of whem I was in Devon when I was about 17 (long time ago.) we were at some place were they sold coffee and all that cream stuff that they go on about down there. Anyway, we had some coffees and they served us this tub of cream (of some kind) No one used any of it but the people I was with scooped some of it out, filled it with fag ash and then smoothed it over so you couldn't tell and then left it on the table. I wonder if they re-served ( and re-charged!) it to another table after.:D

Stongbow comes in pressurised barrels though and would be pretty hard to water down I imagine unless you mix it once its in the lines.

Strongbow has never been supplied in barrels.

also with spirits if you pour water in it then there is always a chance that it will seperate and not mix.

Most spirits will mix quite happily with water, separation is not an issue.

My dad always claimed that back in the day the "slops" from drip trays and unfinished pints used to be poured back into the ale barrels

This happened but was always illegal, it was and probably still is legal to return "pull offs", but only back into the cask from whence it came.

I once saw a waiter drop all the bread he was carrying on the floor, picking it up and served it to the table it was going to. It was even snowy that day so the floor was a bit wet and a lot of sand had been dragged in. I felt so bad but they started eating it before I could have said anything.

Also seen some Chinese restaurants re-serve rice. And once I got a hairclip in the rice as well. Very nice.

Sorry for the off-topic :p

could it be how it's transported effecting the taste? i find coke tastes much different in macdonals/restuarants, plastic bottles, glass bottles and cans. could be same thing with the strongbow?

Is it in town? :p

One of the mini episodes of The Real Hustle showed a con based around this - it involved Jessica behind the bar which to be honest is enough to distract just about anyone from looking at what they're being served :p

Yes they would rub the rim of the glass in gin IIRC and then use a 70% water 30% gin or something like that, so you get the taste but not a full price drink.

I was in a 'Chicken Cottage' after a night out when I hadn't been drinking. My friend ordered a lamb burger and then turned away from the counter to talk to us. I saw a sudden movement out of the corner of my eye and turned just in time to see the guy behind the counter pick up a piece of meat from the floor.

We stared at each other for an uncomfortably long period of time before he decided it was probably best not to try and serve it to my friend.

Only asking because i was out last night and got a Rasberry vodka and the bottle looked very see-through compared to what i buy from tesco.

Most raspberry vodkas I've seen are clear. Absolut raspberry vodka just comes in a tinted bottle. What brand are you buying?

I went to a mates birthday at a social club in stratton once.
Bought a pint, my first annoyance, I paid £3.30 for a pint of carling! Second, it was seriously watered down, from colour and taste. It must have been half water I think. Third, there was one pool cue and it had no tip

I just stick to bottles in places I don't know now.

Probably just past its sell by date knowing Weatherspoons.

I work for Wetherspoon and can tell you that every thing in our cellar has at least a month left on it, also as a company Wetherspoon are religious about line cleans and the perfect pint. So out of all town centre pubs and bars Wetherspoon's beer often is better than most. Obviously there a a few bad pubs but most are quite good. Worst I've done a shift at was Middleton near Manchester. Added to the fact they are no longer that cheap. £2.25 for a lager in Rochdale where as the Litten Tree is £1.49.

On topic yes it is very illegal for a pub to water down a spirit.
